Default First time replacing valve train and working on h22 head...any tips before I kill myself?

Like the title says. Ive decided that my budget for my h22 project needs to go on a diet. Therefore I have taken it upon my self to replace the valves, springs, and retainers in my own garage. I would also like to do some mild porting of the head myself with a dremel. Can anyone share how things went their first time working on their head? Also does anyone know of any write ups done on honda-tech, the internet, or even better a solid book on how to replace your own valve train and port/polish the head? Thanks for the info a head of time folks.

label location and sequence of everything you take out, I like to use a giant sheet of cardboard to lay everything on and outline, also like to thouroughly clean and inspect all parts for wear per service manual, use lots of assembly lube when putting back together and make sure piston one TDC is maintained, use a high quality torque wrench and follow the specs exactly. if you are removing valves also - your probably screwed your first time.

Probably screwed is correct. Little bit of info that I left out...the head is off of the engine. Also, how helpful would a helms manual be with this?

oh yeah get the manual, if your serious about porting, just port match, make template of manifold ports using wahtever and transfer those sizes to the head ports.

if you are replacing your valves you will need a spring compressor and a valve job would be in order as well. Have the head thoroughly cleaned after you have done all the work but when its still disassembled. Have it surfaced too.

You're most likely better off getting a good valve job and just re-assemble it yourself. Becareful when installing the retainers that you don't have the spring fly out and hit an eye or so.

If you have more questions feel free to PM me.
