oil on my piston......HELP
I got a D16Z6 i replaced it with a head that only had a few thousand miles on it which was completely rebuilt from a friend........everything was brand new in the head, port and polished, valves, seals, ETC.....
The car ran fine before the head swap but the next day it started smoking really badly and at idle the smoke is really white...... after trying to accelerate there is black smoke really badly enough that you cant see that car behind you
compression is perfect and now i took the engine apart and there is oil on top of the pistons
Anyone had this problem before or know what might have caused it?????
I think it is valve stem seals but before the head was on the car and it ran perfect

might be valve seals yes.
also could've just been excessive amounts of assembly lubricant on the guides.
only way to know is to take it all apart. It could be an improperly seated guide too

Lets get the basics out of the way.
1. Did you re-use your headgasket?
2. How sure are you that you didnt have oil on the pistons from the install.
3. How sure are you that the parts are actually new and you didnt get lied to.
What are the compression numbers?

1..no the gasket was brand new from honda
2.. the head was dry when it was installed so no oil was in it
3.. no the parts r new this guy is a pretty good frind of mine
don't remember the compression number's but it was good
anyone else?

Are you sure the white smoke at idle is caused from burning oil? Is it possible that the oil got on the pistons during the removal? Perhaps your burning coolant. Usally burning oil is a white/blueish color.
Black smoke=Running extremly rich, or emissions problem

was the head ever installed on another engine before yours?
Sounds possible that valve seals could have been installed backwards (ie. intakes on exhausts and exhausts on intakes) This would definitely cause oil burning and smoke, lots of it.
Have seen this before, that's why I ask...
Just a thought ...

Im not sure the valve seals would cause the massive amounts of white smoke he is describing. If the compression is fine (numbers are where they should be and are close to one another) then just take the head off one weekend, and check things out. Its got the symptoms of a head gasket leak, though. Im assuming you torqued it down to spec and in sequence?
Thats all I got.
Oh...and did you re-use the head bolts?
EDIT- Just remembered the head is already off the car. Im an idiot.

believe me when I say that if valve seals were installed backwards (ie. exhaust on intakes and intakes on exhausts) it would smoke very badly. I have witnessed this many times before when machine shops have inadvertently installed valve seals in wrong locations.

yes i undersatnd about the valve seal's ........but this head wa on another block which ran very strong with no smoke but .....soon as i put it on my block it started to smoke .... i did put in a new head gasket also ..... also my engine ran perfect too before i installed this head...
