Default LSD

I was wondering if any of you could explain how the ITR LSD works?? I have been wondering about this because of all the snow that I have had to drive in, and also because I think my diff has been making a howling sound.

Anyway, if I were to have one wheel in the snow, and one on dry, would the one in the snow still spin freely just like an open diff?? And, most importantly how does it, or what causes it to engage while turning at the track. Thanks.

One wheel needs grip all the time to make an LSD work. Doesnt help considerably well in snow though at all.
