Expo: what tires are you planning on running?
I know its kinda early for Expo, but Im trying to budget some things out and tires are definitely on the list. I plan to buy tires to use ONLY ON THE TRACK, so I think I want top quality but also decent life span. But I also dont want them to be toast after one event(granted, it does vary by driving style).
The Azenis seem to be pretty popular, and I heard they seem to get stickier as they wear down. But the Yoko A032 seem to be popular as well but are much more expensive and I dont know if they are worth it compared to something cheaper like the Azenis. I think that right now Im leaning toward the Azenis because Im not a huge track ***** and they should be sufficient.
Its only my second track event, but during my first event, I definitely felt the need to have better tires than the chitty Supra 712s I was running. What would you guys recommend and what are you gonna run? Search yeilded about 6000 posts and I dont know about you but I dont feel like sifting through that mess.

did that at lime rock...it sucked. I still had fun, but was sliding all over the place.
Oh yeah, I need something that fits the stock wheel as well.

Either Azenis if I still have tread on them when Expo rolls around or MXs as rain tires. If it's nice and sunny, I'll probably be on Kumho V700s or Toyo RA1s. Which ever is cheaper at the time of purchase.
Edit - Being it only your second event, definitely stick with street tires.

and I think now I just wanna try to go fast and be able to try different lines with more confidence.

Since it's only your second track event, I would not recommend an R compound tire (track tire). Wait until you get another half dozen or more track events under your belt before switching to R compounds. The problem with novices using R compounds is that R compounds provide very little warning at all before they lose traction.
I suggest you use whatever tires you're using on the street. If that means they're not as sticky as R compounds, that's okay; you can learn plenty from tires that are less than sticky.
Once you've got enough experience to step up to R compounds, there's information about various models in this topic.
I'll be using R compound tires (am in the process of switching over from A032R to RA-1) but I have driven a few more track events than you have (and I mean no disrespect in saying that; we were all novices at one time).

for stock wheels, i vote you get the 195/55 yoko es100. they're nice sticky summer tires that will work just fine if expo gets some rain. azenis are great, but the 205/50's should really be on 15x7 wheels. i vote strongly against race tires for your 2nd event.
205/50/15 azenis - hopefully..
debaiting though kumho ecsta v710- might go on my stock itr wheels. for autox

Azenis for me on rota$....
I do a lot of tracking and the azenis have done extremely well. Would like to pick up some r compounds though...

good to see people are running different set ups. I wasnt sure about the 205/50 Azenis on the stock R rim but I guess it works out ok. Ill refer back to this in a couple weeks when its time to buy
Either Azenis if they are not worn out by then or my MX's. I think the MXs will likely have the edge since it will prob be fairly warm. Not as warm as AZ was gonna be, tho.
Hopefully it'll be a chance to compare MXs to the Azenis I had last year (and will have for the beginning of this year). If not, on even balder Azenis than now...
