Stumbled across this while looking for rebate information on the RA1.

http://www.hoosiertire.com/spcmiata.HTM

This is in comparison to the $177 that tirerack wants for the same size.....

fyi - It's not the same compound as the regular R3S04.

I don't know the details but the compound was specific to SM. I was told this past weekend that they will not be accepted in SM in SEDiv this coming year (only the Kumho V700, Toyo RA1). I am not sure why this changed (they [Hoosier SM compound] were allowed in the ARRC in SM) but you may want to see on the SM boards if there was any reason for this. Also, this may not be true for other regions. I think, from the few people I spoke with, they were as fast as the Toyo but not anything significantly faster. I do like the R3S04 more than the RA-1.

BTW, the SM usage or lack of is only what I heard so take it with a grain of salt.

I had been told by a Hoosier insider that the SM compound was the same as the slightly harder Grand Am compound, but this is hearsay.

so this tire is still legal for other series that allow dot tires, right?

It seems to be a good option if you can get them to last clost to as long as a toyo.

I heard the same thing. I was using the Grand Am Cup Hoosiers on my BMW M5 Club racer and I really didn't notice much difference. My friends who race in GA Cup swear they last longer but I didn't get much extra use out of them.

The only thing I noticed was that the GA Cup tires seemed less sensitive to tire pressure adjustments and were just a wee bit more progressive in their loss of grip.
