Battery Cable?
The negative battery cable on my 89dx looks to be in Ok condition. My question is that as you go down to the far end(away from battery), there is no protective rubber coating. Its just bear wire and the rubber looks to be cut not torn or worn off. Is this normal or should it be replaced?
It's normal. The other end bolts to the body of the car anyway, so nothing happens if the middle of the wire touches it. Honda does a few ground wires like that, with exposed wires.
The reason most positive wires have insulation is because if it touches the body which is ground it will spark and blow out a fuse. Since the body is already ground the ground wire touching it isn't going to do anything.

ditto.
Its not big deal. As long as the connection is good and not corroded your fine.
Just make sure theres no postive like this!
