Kumho K9A compound first impression
Well, I say first impression because this was the first event on them and they weren't even scrubbed in yet. I won't have a solid opinion about these tires until I have used them over a few dry events.
----------
Conditions, drizzily, cold, semi-dry asphault surface.
I can say the tires were better then I was expecting but due to the cold/wet weather. I was pleased that they didn't push as badly as my worn out set of K6A in the wet but that's not really a fair comparisson.
The only real thing that I can comment on is that the K9A showed less wear over 3 runs then my K6A did. I expect these K9A to last longer.

I'm interested in hearing your opinion after you get a chance to run them in the dry on a warm day... I think that they're going to work out really well for me down south... especially in the summer months.
I'm guessing this was at an autoX... how did you do if I'm not being to nosy?

I finished 3rd in my class and would have taken 2nd if I had not coned every run
I had also changed to softer front springs before the event so that changed the handling of the car. With so many variables I tried just to focus on how the tires griped in the tight turns. However, any additional grip in the turns could also be a result of the softer front springs.
I have video of my first and last runs if you want to see. I'll work on encoding them to a reasonable size tonight, right now they're 200Mb each.

sounds about like my first event on the 235/45's. I had trouble getting used to the extra track width of the car... I seem to be placing better now that I've gotten some seat time. Let me know when you get those vid's up b/c I'd love to see them!
BTW, congrats on the finish

I'm still a newb when it comes to encoding video but here's the highlight of the event:

Video is 1/4 speed

damn!!!! So what you're saying is that you're now racing in Formula Drift?
I like the 1/4 speed... it's much easier to see what's going on that at full speed
Hmmm... guess I'm going to have to make a new camera bar that'll work with the civic so I can start getting some footage...

Which specific tire is the K9A compound found in? I'm thinking about getting some Kumho Ecsta 712's for my car. Right now it's impractical for me to have different race tires and street tires. Any idea how well these tires will wear? Thanks.
Trending Topics
I ran the k9a for the 3rd time ever yesterday and they do seem to be getting faster. If I could just get some heat into the rears. But one trend that I am still getting used to is the last 2 weekends out on them I have looped the car on the first run when the rears were cold while i was braking in a nonstraight line. But by the end of the day yesterday We did end up taking home FTD at deland for fendered cars, those damn cartcontraptions are pretty fast.

congrats on FTD!
I almost came out but the weather looked pretty wretched and I'll be hitting 3 events in the next 4 weeks anyway...

Yeah, it has been a while since my last event. Can't wait to get back on the course and get some seat time. Matt and Christian be warned, I am making a comeback : ). That is of course, if the car doesn't break down.
