Bike gauges in a crx?
I was wondering what it would take to put motorcycle gauges into my Honda Challenge crx. I don't care what kind, but from what I understand, some of the newer ones need the factory ecu, so that's out. I found on ebay a slew of gauges from all the different bike manufacturers, some of them have the digital display and a stand alone tach. Could this possibly work in my race car? (wiring up the digital?) I would imagine that the simpler ones would wire in like any aftermarket gauge, right?
The reason for wanting to put these in is that they have extremely better prices than most aftermarket brands, and allow for a little customization.
If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated, as my knowledge for bikes is limited. TIA.....

It'd be pretty friggen cool to get the newer kawi gauges since they are pretty to look at, but i guess they are kinda tough to read. I'm not sure on wiring and what not, i'm sure it could be done.
to you for a cool idea

Should be straight forward w/ the simple input types. Analog should be childs play. A digital hookup may run off 6v or so but still not a big deal. If you were looking at some late model full clusters w/ digi/led guages and adjustable shift lights, some are full ecu controlled and some aren't so you have to do your research. There are commercial emulators for the digital speedometers that can convert your tranny speed signals into the proper readout w/o the use of the ecu. Search for "yellow box". It is usually used to bring the inflated factory speedometer readouts back into accurate specs. Also help to compensate for different rolling profiles
Holy crap that's some info! Maybe I'll steer away from the digital display styles, Do most of the mid 90's bikes have electric speedos and tachs? I saw that the tachs are mostly just as many wires as any aftermarket, but the speedos....do they make them electronic? Thanks for the replies fellas...
It's a neat idea.
I thought the idea of a new style guage in a car would be pretty cool, but then I thought about the distance. Sportbike guages are read from 12"-18" away, wheras a car it's probably 30+". I think they would be hard to see if you picked the wrong one. The display off a VFR (Interceptor) might work as that's more of a sport tourer and you are farther away.
Cheers,
Sean

very interesting point roy. Mid 90s stuff should mostly be full analog w/ digi odo. I really can't say if they're electronic or not. I'll think about it
