someone told me the cleaning the inside of the throttle body is bad because it will strip the protective coating that honda put to prevent buildup. personally i dont think he's correct. i know some other carmakers do this ( like ford ) but i'm pretty sure honda is not one of them. any comments?

build-up of what? carbon?.. take it off and let me know if buildup was prevented
.. only thing bad that could happen is the cleaner you use could destroy some of the sensors, but just use care

go to pep boys etc and buy throttle body cleaner for $3. Its guaranteed to not strip any protective coatings. Just remove intake start motor and spray!
something that gets built up in Throttle Bodies is Amor All and such stuff like that, thats why alot of peeps dont recomend using it on your motor for hoses and stuff, the reason i know is cause when i did my top end, i cleaned everthing and my Throttle body had ALOT of build up of black stuff inside of it right by the butterfly

ya, that must have been burned on armor all that soaked through your intake hose and got into the throttle body.
I have some JDM armor all that is guaranteed not to clog up your throttle body, only 150$ a bottle.
