Mcpherson struts???
i was recently informed that when my suspension was re-done recently mcpherson struts were put on my car. I asked about them and what i got out of it was that the strut and the spring were all one piece. Would that require me to replace both the struts and the springs or is it possible to remove the spring from that set up??? I am just looking to drop my car for now and later on go back and do the struts also. I'm doing this due to money crunches
lost my job and having trouble getting a new one

Well if I was you i would wait til you have your new job and then tackle the project..but if you are crunching and really want to yes you can remove the spring and replace it with another or a set of coilovers.your choice

so for clarification......mcpherson just applies to a non adjustable spring surrounding a shock/strut.......as opposed to, say, a leaf spring setup???

i have some kyb agx's and some eibach sportlines sitting in the trunk of my car right now, im not gonna bother doing one then the other... both at the same time saves you time, money (if you dont do it urself) and effort. be patient and just get struts and springs installed at the same time. either way ur gonna need struts since lowering your car on stock struts will basically jus kill the struts sooner or later.
Ummm... I pretty sure McPherson is a name for a particular suspension setup, not a name for the strut assembly. Usually one lower control arm, the strut assembly and sway bar. I'm also pretty sure most Hondas up until the recent Civics used a double wishbone setup. Which uses an upper control arm, lower control arm and the strut assembly. On the Accords there's also a link between the two control arms which makes it a multi link hybrid design. The shock and spring assembly is simply called a strut.
And since you say you have a 94 Accord, it does not use a McPherson setup. I have a friend with a 92 Accord and we noticed the ball joint in the upper control arm was broken. He called a mechanic and the guy told him his car didn't have an upper control arm cause it was a McPherson setup. Yeah.
Oh, and the benefit of a McPherson setup over the others; it's lighter and takes up less space. I'm pretty sure my friend's Galant VR-4 uses it and I know my old Escort and my roommates 01 Civic also have that setup. However my 92 Accord most certainly does not.
