Wanna shifter kart, where do I start?
As the title says, I would like to get into shifter karts. My friends and I have discussed it many times, and I thought you guys would know the best way to start. I know learning would probably come best on an 80cc, but is it possible to start on a 125cc? Also I live in north Georgia and I was wondering if there are any places to start racing.(autoX, tracks) Also if you know of any good web sites that would help. Thanks in advance.
Go to BAM and pick up a copy of Shifter karting magazine. Lots of info, BTW they can get pretty expensive, ie full race competitive at least $4000, then new clutches and tires it adds up. Rotax are pretty big right now, or just build a version of the Gixxerkart, the one with GSX? engine on it, theres a video somewhere.
Good luck
Good luck
Start off in a slower class. Shifters are not for first time karters.
A yamaha KT-100 based class will be very comptetitive and you will learn more, faster and be a much better driver in the long run.
Rotax is also a good way to go but some say that class is too fast for beginners too.

i used to race karts. 100cc non-shifter is the best starting point and the classes are very competitive.
80cc is the outcast... raced those things when i was 12-13 years old... a lot of events wont even have an 80cc class and they'll run you with 125cc. that might have changed in the last 5 years, i don't know.
125cc is great, but you will get owned if you are jumping strait in it.
so if you plan on racing and being competitive, go with the 100cc. if you just want to run around an open track on weekends, a shifter will be more fun.
