Default part identification help please

in 4g accord (92), trying ID the little black box about 5 inches by 3 inches just to the left of the battery. It has wires connected it to the OE air tubes that go to the OE airbox. What the heck is that thing? Is it a mass air sensor module of some kind? and would i be able to do an IAT mod on it.

anyone know what an IAT mod is? i have seen it done on a a 2g probe and it does wonders. you connect a switch to the mass air flow sensor fooling the computer into thinking the air is colder than it really is. My friends probe chirps from 1st to 2nd without any major hp upgrades. shaves .5 seconds of 1/4 times. Basically, what it feels like is instead of slowing down during shifts, it lunges forward with no slow down. ITS SOME COOL ****.

if it is anything like the 90 accord ex, then i believe it is an egr valve - or something to tell the intake how much air vs. other stuff is getting into the intake. it really shouldn't matter if it is there or not. it will not be part of any performance intake, so it can't be bad to disconnect it, or just take it off.

I've never heard of an IAT mod, but hell, a stock Toyota Trecel will chirp into second.

That is the intake control solenoid. I dont know if yours is a DX, LX, or EX, but on the EX what it basically does is switch between the two intake paths to reduce intake noise at low RPM's. On my EX you'll notice that there is an intake tube that goes into the fender, and one that goes underneath the battery. This solenoid switches between those tubes at a certain RPM.

I have the EX. Yeah, I have seen those pipes, but I took out most of them and put in my K&N intake. I guess its pretty useless now. And besides, I dont want LESS noise. Thanx.
