Default Rattle = Needs rebuild?

So I've had this rattle for the longest time. Didn't think anything of it since it only happens at partial throttle (not idle, not cruising, not WOT) from 2000rpm and on --- and it had been running great.

Thought it might have been from tranny, but got a new clutch, fw, and 4.785 FD put in... still rattles.
Thought it might be the header (had an old DC 4-1), so I swapped all of it out to a new header/cat/catback... still rattles.
Thought it would be the cat heatshield... took it off.... still rattles.

So I decided to bring it into this nearby shop. We jacked it up, he listened for 5 seconds, and said I need a rebuild. Loose/bad connecting rod because the sound is coming from the oil pan!

I decide to get another opinion... and take it over to Lawrence at DSR. He took off the oil pan and the valve cover... looked at everything from the top and bottom, and said basically everything is within specs and looks ok... so he's baffled as well because he agrees it's coming from the oil pan area.

So if things look good, and I've been driving it like this for quite some time, any other suggestions?

At least I know my R's not the only one. Everyone tells me it's the JDM header and heat shield but I guess you answered that. If you find out whtat it is please let me know. Good Luck!
Sorry I'm not any help!

no rattles at idle.
rattles regardless of clutch in/out.

D - oil pump you say... is that possible at partial throttle? is it something you can see (like when the oil pan was dropped) or some internal problem.

Do you have a highflow cat?? Mine rattles quite a bit when the car is cold and only a tad once the car warms up, and I am also heatshield-less. I am under the impression that the honeycomb material expands and contracts enough with the temperature change that it rattles the most when the car is cold.

Anyway, goodluck

is the oil pan dented? The oil pickup could be rattling on the bottom of the pan. . .
