Default how much is a GSR starter, are they charging too much??

i bought a starter from murrays auto, (similar to pepboys, autozone) for $160. I waited for a couple days for them to get it in, and it ended up being the wrong part starter for the wrong car.
I returned it and exchanged it and waited another couple days for a new one. the car still wouldnt start, so i just brought it into an automotive shop. they just called me and said the 2nd starter I got from the place was STILL the wrong one. i am giong to get a refund from murrays since this is the second wrong starter. the shop qouted me $265 for them to get a starter. my mom knows these people and said they are reputable, and the guy said the reason the previous starters were only $160 is because they were for the SOHC non-vtec. he said for my GSR most starters do go for around $265 which is what is is charging me.

should i just have him do it and get it over with since i have been out of a car for almost 2 weeks because murrays cant get me the right part, or am i getting screwed here??

sounds like a reasonable price. A starter + labor on my old car (a '97 corolla) totalled out to be almost double that.

is that $256 for JUST the starter? If so, that's a rip. You should just look for a used starter...if you have a g3 teg, any g3 starter should work. I bought a used ITR starter for my LS for $50 from someone on this board. Labor shouldn't cost that much at all. They don't even have to remove anything except your air intake....then it's all bolt and unbolt from there...

If you got a local shop around you ask them or maybe a junkyard. try http://car-part.com/ also. i got one from a shop for 50 bucks they had laying around and its pretty easy to install if you know what youre doing. man i couldnt justify 250 bucks for an integra starter and install!

just the starter itself is $265. with labor is going to be $400. the starter will be a new bosch starter, and i have already bought 2 wrong starters from murrays.

if all the starters are the same, what the hell were they giving me before then, for those 2 starters that didnt fit? so $265 is a rip for it then? i need a cheaper one then. local places like autozone an pepboys sell them for like 175, but i have already gotten 2 wrong starters from places like that, i havnt had a car in over a week, so i am afraid to go to a place like that, and just have this automotive shop do it their way to create less a hassle for me. but it will also require more $$ for me to spend.

just get one from autozone or advance, they probably have it in stock...

put it on yourself... shouldn't take but about 30 mins from the time you start pulling off the intake to the time you are closing the hood.

That's crazy. look for a used OEM one, then find an honest shop or get a friend to install it. Total, this shouldn't cost you more than $100...including labor. And even that is a little much.

normallly i would install it myself, i know how to. but since I took it into the shop because the starter was already replaced 2 times, and the shop owner told me it was the wrong starter, he pulled that one off and i brought it to murrays. my car is at the shop with out a starter in it. so i cant do it myself, otherwise i would.

i am just going to go through with it. I am sick of my car not running.

he is charging a total of $420 for a diognostic test, new battery terminal, new batterys cable, and starter with all the labor. its a bit much, but theres not much else i can do.
