All Motor Shots.By request
I had an interesting e-mail from a forum member today. He asked me “Why do some cars appear in the magazines so often yet others are hardly ever shown?”
Apart from the obvious things like the rags will feature event winners, record breakers etc, here’s a few observations from a shooters point of view.
a) Cars that have interesting graphics and/or color schemes always look more interesting to the photo editors.
b) A solid colored car is harder to get “Keeper” shots of as are cars that have similar colors. The reason for this is that the autofocus systems on modern cameras rely on contrast to lock the focus in. If the car has nice contrasty graphics and colors the chance of getting nice sharp shots is greatly increased. For example: Kenny Trans Civic has bands of different colors on the front end - white/red/green. Autofocus locks on instantly. Another good one is Ken Scheepers RX7. The yellow with black bumper and vents has about as much contrast as you could wish for. Other good ones are Steph’s Civic, John Browns Civic, The Mopar cars and Lisa’s Saturn.
Bad cars for shooters? Chris Rado’s all black Celica and Gary’s Civic (although I normally get a lock on the Turbonetics lettering on the bumper of these cars) All white cars can also be tough. If you want to see more pics appearing of your car try introducing some contrasting colors or graphics. (flouresents work awesome)
Just FYI, what the hell if it was easy everyone would be doing it…..
Here are a few All Motor shots for those that requested them….

I have that problems sometimes in my netscape. Don't know why. But good pics as usual. Keep them coming, everyone is enjoying the pics I think. Especially with the track withdrawl most people are going through right now.

Thanks...I use a Canon 1d, 10d and I think a couple of the shots were made with a Nikon D100.
Dammit! Canon just announced a new digi SLR-8.5mp-8.5 frames per second. I gotta' have it. Anyone got a spare room?, I'm sure the wife will divorce me for placing an pre-order. $4500 Yikes!!!

Crazy!! Love to have those camera's. I love my Nikon 5700 though. I think it does an awesome job, but still have work out the manual modes for different lighting at track to get the crispness just right

The 5700 is a great camera- I almost bought one for a recent trip to England but I ended up buying a Canon G5 (I didn't want to lug a bag of lenses and crap around on vacation). It's impossible to keep up with the changes in technology these days (Kinda' like computers) You just have to jump in at some point....
My first digi SLR was a Kodak DCS420. 1.5 megapixels, absolutely massive and cost about $7500 in '97
The latest generation of "Entry level" SLR's (Canon 300D and Nikon D70) are less than a grand. 6MP etc ...Digital has pretty much taken over these days and I love it.
No film to buy, no developing costs and its so much easier to work with

Awesome cam, I want the 1DS (11.1megapixel) but $8000 is a bit much... Digi stills = only SLR
</TD></TR></TABLE>
Yes the 1DS is awesome but more suited to studio work (3.5 frames per second?)
Still I'd love one too if I had the cash to spend.
