Default Loose cam gear problems?

I turn the car on the other day in the morning and it starts making this clicking sound as if there's a bolt loose in the engine....went away after a few minutes...so I drive to my friend's house to do some welding (5 mins away) and we noticed the exhaust cam gear had slipped to -10 or whatever the AEM goes to because apparently dumb *** me forgot to tighten the bolts ()

So after some "holy s#1t!"'s, brand new engine could have gone bye bye I am thinking if this did anything permanent. I mean AEM allows adjustment up to a safe and possible range right? Not like that cam came off or anthing....it just slipped to the edge of the scale.

Should I be worried? Everything sounds fine now. We're tuning tomorrow....

I think I did because of the knocking...isn't that what knocking/pinging is?

Would everything seem to work ok if I had a bent valve though?
