Guys, I need a question answered. I'm basically on my way to the dealer for my 30,000 mile service. I purchased some Motul DoOT 5.1 brake fluid to install...but reading my owners manual this morning I come across this...

"Brake fluid marked DOT 5 is not compatible with your vehicle's braking system and can cause extensive damage."

This has me a little worried. From what I have heard other people are using this fluid, can somebody please confirm that this will be okay or should I just have the OEM fluid put in?

 

DOT 5 is silicon based. I believe DOT 5.1 is not. So, you should be alright. Just check the contents of the fluid to be sure.

 

This link shows that 5.1 is indeed compatible with Honda braking system. (So are DOT 2 and 4 fluids). Scroll down to the bottom.
