Default What ecu for my Y8 mini me???

I am wondering what ecu I should use for my Y8 mini me im building on an A6 block in a 89 crx si. I was going to just use a VAFC but I figured for not much more I could just run a ecu meant to run vtec. I am planning on getting a boomslang obd0-obd1 conversion harness. I have a Y8 manifold and distributor I am planning on using and I was wondering if there is an obd1 ecu that will run vtec and allow me to use the y8 distributor and injectors instead of putting my wimpy a6 injectors in the y8 mani???

the a6 injectors put out the same cc's as the y8, but if ur running OBD1 u can't use them, i don't think u can even use the y8 injectors on OBD1 as well, ur gonna need to get some OBD1 injectors, all honda injectors have the same cc's, about 220.. lude one and some integras are 290.. but u can't use them unless u wanna run rich..
so get some OBD1 injectors.. and bypass the resistor box.. i'd say just use a z6 ecu, i think the code for it is p28?.. or a 92-95 EX/Si ECU.. that is pretty much the same engine as the y8, just minor differences

P28 stuff -

You can use the OBD-0 injectors with the resistor box in place.
You can use OBD-1 injectors, but no resistor box and different clips than OBD-0.
You can use the OBD-2 injectors, but their clips are different than the OBD-1 clips.

Depending on what you got with your Y8 head, the VAFC route can cost quite a bit less. The VAFC will do the trick and you can tune a little here and there. If you already have the A6 ECU and you DON'T have the Y8 distributor and plugs then th VAFC route can cost a bunch less than converting to OBD-1.

If you still need an ECU and you want to use a VTEC ECU then a P28 is your best bet. To save on money I would suggest you make your own jumper harness or cut your stock plugs and just hardwire in the OBD-1 plugs. The P28 and the new O2 sensor alone are going to cost as much as the VAFC. If you go for a jumper harness then it's going to be about another $100. If you don't have the distributor for that Y8 head then get ready to pay some more money.

what i have is a y8 complete head and a y8 complete intake manifold w/ injectors.....I was going to go with my a6 obd0 injectors in the y8 mani and run my a6 distributor with a vafc to the solenoid for vtec control but I thought for a little bit more money I could run the vtec ecu and distributor and it would run better but i guess I would be spending a significant amount more than I would just running the vafc with the parts i already have......will the a6 injectors work in the y8 clips??

You can go with using the PM6 ECU and the V-AFC, sticking with OBD-0 and you'll get decent performance w/tuning.

If you upgrade to OBD-1 using the P28 ECU, you'll run too lean during VTEC, AND the x-over point will be too early. You can still run the OBD-0 injectors as posted above.

The problem with mini-me setups is tuning - it's a custom setup so you're going to have to do some custom tuning.

I've done both of these routes, and I've come up with the best solution....
OBD-1 conversion with the V-AFC, and the ECU is socketted with my own custom P28 ROMs - I have the ability to burn new ones and modify the fuel/timing maps however I want. The V-AFC gives me on-the-fly tuning for an optimal A/F ratio.

If you don't know how to tune your motor properly, the Y8 mini-me route isn't going to give you the results you want; unless you're willing to take the time to understand what's really going on inside of the combustion chamber.

What do you have to do in order to tune it properly so that the engine isn't running too rich or lean?
