Default oil pan for autocross.

I am not familiar with this area and would like to know from the experts' experience on going around the corners with the oil pan that works good in controlling oilslushing during corners.

a stock pan will do fine, but baffles can't hurt.

The stock pan is fine - on track the turns are bigger and the speeds are higher, and poses a much greater risk (compared to autox)

However, it is not a bad idea if you were to put a baffled pan in or baffle the stock pan

how much difference would the effect have on the engine with a baffled oil pan?

It is not an engine mod, but more as a protection for the engine. A baffled pan just makes sure that oil is always available for the oil pump to pump into your engine. With a normal pan, under high speed turns, the forces can force the oil to one side of the pan away from the pump, therefore no oil or much less oil would be going to your engine.

I'm curious if anyone knows if there's a significant weight difference between a stock pan and one of the Moroso aluminum pieces.

I would think that many people that autocross eventually make it to an HPDE event... so I would say it's probably a good idea to get a baffled oil pan.

That's just me I guess, but better safe than sorry, you never know when you're going to need it.

I definitely have made the progression from autox to HPDE, and while I haven't had any starvation issues on the banking at Gateway flat out in 4th gear pulling over 1.1g, it's still a cool mod and the extra oil capacity can't hurt either, it's on the long side of the to-do list. Just curious if the Al-you-mini-um piece from Moroso has ever been put on a scale next to a stock pan.

you need to be VERY careful when considering an aluminum pan.....

many many many times i have "bonked" my factory steel pan when going off track "slightly". the steel will bend and crush. but generally doesn't leak...

the aluminum will not take this kind of beating. period. it generally cracks immediately and then all your oil leaks out and then you either spin out and crash, or sieze the motor on the last lap with the finish line in sight!!!!

i vote for a steel pan for racing.

if you use an AL one, consider very strongly a good skid plate under it!!!!

Well, an off-track is usually wall at my track.

It's a DSP car first. I have experience with cracked al pans on BMW's though, ack.

How much are the spoon pans running these days, is anyone on here JDM sweet enough to know a price? I know the Mugen is ~250.

lol thread jack

appreciate everyone's feedbacks on this thread topic. Spoon baffled oil pan is 299. I'd rather make the stock one baffled. is it just welding?

DO NOT BUY A B-SERIES MOROSO ALUMINUM PAN FOR AUTO-X! I had one of these on my b20vtec, and the needle on my oil pressure guage dropped to 0 when doing figure-8's in a parking lot. Went to a Mugen pan- and all is well. Moroso does not have a road-race/auto-X pan for the b-series motors. If you're d-series, you're in luck.

I was just looking at their street/strip pans cross-eyed trying to figure out how they controlled oil laterally. That explains it.

I guess I'll grab a Mugen next time I have the pan off.

Can anyone recommend someone to add baffles to my stock GSR pan?
