Default **building F20B, need some help on some info**

Hey guys,
I am in need of some info that i havent been able to find in the archives.
Im trying to find some parts for my motor.

Anyways i found the bore is 85mm x 88mm stroke

OK since no one makes off-the-shelf pistons for this thing
would boring it out to 87mm and using h22 LC pistons be an option providing the Compression height is the same?

which brings me to my next question.......
what is the compression height or is it the same as h22?

next question........
does anyone know of anyone who has off-the-shelf pistons for this thing?
in need of this stuff ASAP.
please point me in the right direction
TIA

-matt

you can't bore an F20B out to 87mm reliably. That's how H-series became 87mm they added FRM material to be able to run thinner sleeves.

There is nothing wrong with the 85mm 11:1 piston..just mill the head if you want compression...or sleeve the block to whatever bore you want and use H22 pistons.

well im turbo so Im not to thrilled about the 11:1
I need Lower C/R pistons and i dont have the $$$$ to sleeve it at this point.
kinda spur of the moment right now, I just need to get it back together for now.

So the 2mm will run into reliablitly problems?
Maybe a block gaurd help out some?
the sleeves seem alot thicker than the typical B-series sleeves.

Someone was also telling me You cant run Forged stuff in the FRM sleeves?

the F20B does NOT HAVE FRM SLEEVES.

There are shelf b-series 85mm pistons...you may have to re-bush your rods but it may be an option...compression height for F20B piston should be same as h22a I would think. I think I measured the rods at 145mm when I had them

re-bush my rods? never heard that before
I would assume it has something to do with the compression height being what like 1.8-9 on the b-series and like 2._ on the f/h series?

I wonder about using a high compression b-series pistons since the height is lower.
Dont have time to measure it out though.
i need something to through back in this thing.

I have an h22 block and crank...
can I use the H22 block and crank with my rods and some h22 pistons?
i know the block i have is pre-98 so my crank is out of the question from what ive read

**** Even if i could find a set of stock f20 pistons id be happy, I dont have a clue to get hold of any

Why don'y you just use an F22a piston, it's 8.8:1 on a S model prelude...be even lower on an F20b

its still 87mm though isn't it?
and with what you said im assuming the compression height is the same?

But let me get this straight, stock f22 pistons in an type S prelude motor will yeild 8.8:1 if im reading that right?
why do you say even lower in an f20?

i would of thought it would be higher since the combustion chamber on the f20 head is smaller hence the 85mm bore therefore raising the compression

you might want to use a different f-series piston now that i think about it. The F22a head cc volume must be pretty small....that piston might be really low on the compression..

well that im not too worried about, a minute difference in compression is not my highest worries and I thought the f20b head has small cc's from the smaller bore next to an h22 head
more or less worried about getting the bore right

f-blocks are 85mm (except S2000). So the pistons are 85mm. I am assuming compression height is the same cause the F22a and H23a motors share the same crank and rods...and block for that matter. So the CH should be the same as the h0seires.

no the F22a head combustion chamber volume must be small...I don't know what it is..in a type-s prelude it would be less than 8.8

The F20B head does not have a small combustion chamber...it's the same as an H22a...53.8cc or so. It;s mainly a type-s head. This is how they developed the F20C S2000 motor...they learned that destroked motors with big combustion chambers and High Comp were good.

True but the combustion chamber is different in bore size correct?

SO we have a c/r of 8.8:1 with f22 pistons in a type s motor
What is stock c/r on an f22.... I can always compensate C/R if i order forged pistons
I assume you were using oversized f22 pistons then?

other infos good to know...

I think the F20B head had an 87mm bore on top..I don't think they changed it. if you have the motor apart just measure it...

No you aren't reading what I am saying. 8.8:1 is the stock CR on an F22 motor. I don't know what it will be when you have a larger cc and smaller displacement...the best I can say is <8.8:1

I don't get if all this **** is apart you can have the builder measure up everything to determine the CR...

Why would i be using oversized F22 pistons? For what?

ill measure it at the shop tomorrow, im at home now.

sorry i looked up at an earlier post and was confused, i thought you meant a type s h22, not s prelude....
I dont have the bottom end apart, im trying to get it back together as soon as possible. I dont have access to the tools to measure up C/R at this point.
Im trying to find a direct replacement, so i can get it back on the road.

sorry for all the questions

Okay F22a head cc = H23 head cc

In that case your CR will likely be around 8.0:1 with f22a pistons...

you're the one who started talking about type-s not me...

Yea sorry... got confused...

Anyways 8:0 isnt so bad......
**** my DSM was 7:8

theoretically I could also problay use 11:1 off the shelf f22 pistons and end up somewhere 10:1

which off the shelf f22 pistons? Oh well if someone sells forged high comp pistons then yeah that's an option.

Yea i belive 11:1 f22 pistons are pretty easy to get ahold of, in fact i think Race engineering has a closeout on some of their pistons and the HC f22 are one of them,
Im going to check into it today

i thought that both the h23 and f22 were both closed deck
why would you need a block guard?

I dunno who the **** was logged in above when i replied at work...

anyways they sell f22 block gaurds so thats why im asking.
But if the h22/f20 blocks are similar just difference in the sleeves/bore....
I dont know what to order

F20b head.... bore is 85mm
I just measured it
so the head cc must be smaller than a typical h22 head...
this head is labeled with p13, not PCB like everyone says

f20b is an opendeck..I don't know about block guard compatibility...

F20B heads I have seen are labeled PCBabove the exhaust ports...are you gonna CC the chambers?
