Default SWITCHING TO SKUNK 2 STAGE 2 CAMS?

Ok I was thinking of switching out my ITR intake cam for a SKUNK 2 intake cam stage 2? I am keeping the stock ITR exhaust cam in.

Anyone think this will be a problem for my ITR? Will the ITR valvetrain/head be able to hold it? Or is it way too much..?

Its feasible, keeping the stock valveterrain i wouldnt rev past 8,500 rpms, also I would suggest uprgrading both cams.(intake and exhaust)

i wouldnt do it with the itr valve train.. there is a good chance you could snap a retainer in half with such a large cam and i doubt you would get much gains with just a intake cam, i think they would work against each other? i dunno.. but there are some people selling used skunk stage 2 cams for like $500 if money is an issue

That's an unorthodox mod - but I don't think it will be a problem.

Stock valvetrain should be fine up to stock redline.

Tuning is key - that's not a "plug n play" mod

Yea, just look out for good deals i picked up my skunk stages 2s for 450 2,000 miles on them Edit: also when mixing cams like that its usually easier to do with a milder cam such as toda A or sks1

if you plan on staying with the stock rev limiter , it would be fine . Also i would advise you to tune the car (invest in cam gears )

someone once told me, "do it half assed, and you'll get half *** performance."

i wouldn't risk running such lump without proper valvesprings.
and also...

hmm...from all the research i have done, using Skunk2 Stage 2's Cams, you'd have to upgrade your valvesprings at least, otherwise you'd valve springs could break, float a valve....bad stuff like that, totally not worth the risk :-)

Doesn't the Skunk2 Stage 2 intake cam lift exceed the limit of the stock ITR springs? In other words, the first time VTEC engages your springs will bind solid and everything will break into very small but expensive pieces?

I've done something similar to your proposal using a Jun II intake cam (advanced 5 degrees) with the stock valvetrain, but there is less lift.

I know this one guy and he had Skunk 2 Stage 2 cams in a stock Civic SI b16A2 and it ran fine although it idled kinda rough and was loud... he eventually changed over to the skunk 2 valvetrain. He droved on it for like 1 yr... and nothing happened.

Humm... I think I might be going with a Skunk 2 stage 1 cam instead then. It seem closes to the CTR intake camshaft.

wow no one has mentioned spring bind yet, which I believe is going to be a problem when going with a cam profile that has lift bigger than 12.0 mm (sk2 stg2 int = 12.3mm lift)

ewww bind *cringe*

Hi SpeedyR,

You might also want to look at the JUN stage II intake cam. It worked well in my R after I advanced it 5 degrees (Skunk II cam gears). Powerband comes in nice and (relatively) low. It works well with my long SMSP header/cat/exhaust set-up. I need more tuning though.

Can someone abound on the idle issue on the Skunk2 Stage2 cams ?? I am almost ready to buy a set of these for my ITR but I am still concerned about idle quality. I am upgrading the valvetrain to Skunk2 components (springs and Ti retainers) as well as getting a full head job including port, polish, multi-angle valve job, and mill for extra compression. I am keeping the OEM ITR valves and using AEM cam gears to tune the cam timing.

I guess my case is similar to most people out there, the Skunk2 cams seem to come with the nicest purchase price. I agree that maybe some JUN cams would provide a nicer idle and good power increase but at a higher price.

A video of these cams at idle would be nice Anyone ??
