VIS carbon fiber hatch........
i'm wondering the same. it seems there is a lot more weight to be saved on the hatch rather than the hood. anyways, yes, you can use your stock rear window. a lexan rear window would help save weight even further, but they're illegal and plus they don't stay clear too long.
if anyone's interested i got a rear cf hatch brand new sitting in my garage from VIS. PM me if interested. my friend has it... it makes a world of a difference, more then the other trunks, for example, accords, preludes, wrx, cause our hatch is so huge.

Exactly. With stock glass, it's just bling.

even if it is just bling, what would you replace the glass with that would remain functional...? lexan would get scratched up in a hurry.....

it's not JUST bling. the metal hatch assembly isn't exactly light. granted the biggest weight savings will come from the glass, you would still be helping reduce weight.
what does a cf hatch cost? i know the fiberglass ones are $250....
anyone know the difference in weight between the two?
as for window options... i'd get a FAL rear lexan window... if it gets foggy or scratched then deal with it... everything has a trade off. however, i think scratches would be your only issue. the FAL windows aren't supposed to discolor or "cloud"

I've usually seen the CF hatches going for around $450.
And maybe not to you guys, but to me it is pointless if you keep the stock glass. I would definately get lexan (most likely FAL).

Exactly, but think about what takes up most of that space....glass.

can you use the rear hatch FAL window on the stock hatch?
does anyone have a fiberglass hatch on their street car, or track car? i wanted to know how flimsy it is, or if it was firm and rigid enough to be used on the street without drawing attention... i'd want one only if it looked stock.

i think a problem would be that all the weight reduction in the back of the car would mess up the weight balance of the car. I'm pretty sure the ITR guys talked about this in a thread they had.
