hello everyone i just got a quick question is it possible to pass smog with a ls/vtec...stock b18a short block with just i/h/e and a itr intake manifold and also a chiped Pr3 ecu? the head is a b16a

 

if you got money, it's possible. other then that, there's no way my friend could have passed his smog test.

 

It depends upon the engines tuning, you can tune it to be emissions friendly, but don't expect it to be all that cheap.

thats why anyone that mods their cars here just do illegal smogs

you won't pass legally with that ECU. you might be able to get away with the visual test if you put on a valve cover with the VTEC sanded down.

why is it hard to pass the smog?? is that also true in NY?? cuz i am planning to do ls/vtec and if i won't be able to pass the state inspection, i mind as well just save money on turbo. thanks.

 

It will fail visual in CA unless you have a complete swap that is bar ref. No half and half setups.

 

i will be smogging this car in phoenix arizona anyone have experience with smogging cars there?? ive heard that they dont do visual.?

trust me... I have seen dumb smog tech's not notice the vtec solenoid on LS/VTEC set ups.... all they did was remove the spark plug cover and shave down the dohc vtec.

 

Depend on which state. I know in Kali it is impossible. I heard i Hawaii as long as you have a CAT you are OK.

as long as you pass the sniffer using the usual methods, you can pass anything in phoenix!

Thats not true because im running a b18c1 wid e/h/i and itr cams and i passed smog just fine, plus i was the few unlucky ones that got a test only station so they were alot more strict, still cost some money to get the car smogged tho, cali sucks for that one reason!

 

thats completely wrong two of my friends ls/vtec pass smog

was ls block with usdm itr piston b16 head milled .003 itr cams too all stock bolt ons......

then a stock ls block with gsr head milled .003 itr cams skunk im aem ls cai pass smogged too this set-up we did all home installation as long everything plugs into place you koo...

this is in san jose, ca

 

the stock bottom end ls/vtec used a stock ls ecu

the built one had hondata stage 3

 

well at least that gives me some hope in passing smog in phoenix. with some tuning
