whats wrong with my clutch?
there's something wrong with my clutch and i have no clue what it could be...perhaps ya'll could give me some help.
first it started about a week ago when my clutch felt weird..i had to push the pedal most of the way down before i felt some pressure. and i mean almost all the way down to the floor.
then after about a week of not drivin it, the pedal offers no resistance at all!! i can start the car but i cant get into any gear. it wont go all the way into first but if i try my car will still inch forward. and when i tried to put it in reverse, my car makes a grinding noise.
can anyone offer any help and tell me what is wrong with my car??
do i need a new clutch?
am i low of fluids? (i checked and it doesnt seem so)

I don't know what year/kind of car you drive since you didn't state it... but since you have a 3rd gen teg avatar, I'll go from that.
First off, you don't have a clutch 'line' to be slack ... it's an all hydraulic system.
From your description, it's definitely a leaking master cylinder or slave cylinder. You can check for a leaky master cylinder by looking under the dash, right above the clutch pedal to see if there is any fluid running down on the pedal/brackets. The slave is a little harder to see, it's on the side of the transmission, but if you can jack the car up and get underneath, it will be fairly easy to see if it has a leak.
The parts for a new/refurb master and slave will run about $80-120 for the set and it takes around 1.5-2 hours to install/bleed the system. Where you take it will change the cost dramatically... Acura dealership at $80 an hour.... or local shop at $40 an hour.... :-)
Or better yet, do you have a friend that's handy with imports? It's not difficult at all to change those out.

check the clutch fluid resevoir. Chances are you have a leak in the clutch system. If you need to drive the car to a garage, try bleeding the clutch and fill it up with dot3 brake fluid just to get it moving.
With a high probability of it being the master or slave cylinder, it would be foolish to predict where the problem is. Check for leaks and signs of dirt collecting underneath. the brake fluid will evaporate but the debris collected in that area should offer clues.
good luck.

why woudnt he bleed it instead?? might seem that he has air in his system? he has no pressure to the clutch pedal...just my o2 might want to do that before spending a load on a a new mc...peace
There is really no way for air to get into the system. Unless of course he took somthing apart. The two most common things that happen are that the slave or the master will leak fluid out till you have none left(Inwhich case one or the other or both need to be replaced) Or the seals in the master will go andyou will get no pressure. If the seals in the master go you will often get a lot of black residue in the resevoir.
Even if it ran out of fluid because something was leaking and got air in it, and he then refilled it and bled it. It would only be a band-aid solution. It wouldn't actually fix what is leaking fluid.

Same sh~!t happen to me and few other friends, last year tho. fvk fvk~ Its something really more simple then thought. I went and purchased something from an autostore and replaced. And then refill the dot3 back up. $10 cost? Ill get back to you on this later.
Still remembering what it was. >_<

the system is a sealed so there is no reason for air to enter the clutch fluid.
He should bleed the system so he can get the car over to a mechanic or at least a place that has a lift.

HOW MANY MILES ON THE CAR WHAT KINDA A CAR???
sounds like a clutch replacment to me.....
if its hard for you to get it in first gear, or the clutch starts to slip outta gear when you accelerate really hard its time for a clutch replacment.

You are right around the mileage that most slave cylinders go out. Everytime I see one of these posts, it's around 80-100k miles. I would definitly start there.

He didn't say anything about it slipping, he just doesn't have any pedal pressure. When a slave or master goes you cannot get it into gear because the clutch is not releasing. Even if the springs had broken and jammed the pressure plate you still would have pedal pressure.

this looks like a leaky clutchmaster cylinder right?

Yup its leaking, but from my experience, i have the same problem before, i replaced the clutchmaster cylinder and the slave cylinder, new fluid and bleed it, and it still do the same thing, until i change my clutch and then the problem went away.
Now i dont need to worry about anything got to do with my clutch nomore, everything is brand new. Good luck!

all u need to replace is the clutch master and slave cylinder.
unless your clutch was going out before this starting happening then u should od it all at the same time.
but replacing those first two components is pretty easy job, just make sure to bleed the system real good when done
i replaced mine the other day and it took like 30 minutes tops

Yes, replace the clutch master and slave(slave is so cheap and easy to do just do them both at once). That should take care of your problem. Remember to bench bleed the master first, install it, install the slave, bleed the system. Watch the fluid level while bleeding the system. You don't want to suck air into it accidentaly.
Ok, guys found I have the same problem with my GSR and it has 75000 miles on it. This sucks.
I am ok with knowing that I have to replace it. My question is why???
What part is the malfunction and are the OEM replacment parts only going to do the same thing, or is it something that is fixed by the aftermarket?

when you guys said leaking...where is the leaking coming from because i recently jacked up my car and found some stuff leaking, but have yet to find out where it's coming from or what it is. the reason i am asking is because i have clutch problems too. the leaking is coming from the right side of the engine left side if you are in front of the car...hope that helps in description wise for somebody to help me out...thx
