Default which B16A

Ok here is the situation, I have a 98 civic dx and i want to swap in a si motor, B16. Now my question is which B16 will fit in my car. Everyone I have talked to has told me different things. Some people say go with the B16A1 its the cheapest swap, and then other people say that there is no way the B16A1 will fit in my car. So which motor fits and where would be the best place to get the complete swap. Thanks for the info.

ok the b16a is the cheapest (about 1k cheaper) but you have to convert to cable transmission (i think hasport makes a kit for like 300$) because yours is a hydraullic(spelling) the b16a2 is the best and easiest swap. that ranges from 2400-3k depending on where you look. thats for the complete swap.
im doing the b16a2 in my 94 ex. i cant wait. 2 weeks from ordering.
1 more paycheck...... 'd

man the 300 you spend on the hydro tranny conversion could be spent on getting a hydro tranny. Sell your cable for 300-400 then get a hydro.

.....damn I can't wait till i do up the info on my site about this type of stuff! no more questions like this will be asked!

Ok, YES, an older 89-91 B16A (cable type) WILL bolt into your civic.....BUT....not with a cable tranny - unless you go with that new HASPORT kit. However, the 89-91 B16A long block is the main part that will bolt into your civic using the right mounts (94+ Integra or Si coupe) along with any HYDRO B-series transmission (B16A or ITR preffered). Then you have to get a hold of OBD2 electrical/ignition components to make everything work smoothly. This why some people (like me) say, go with a 96+ B16A- such as an Si coupe engine.

so it becomes a slight hassle if you go with the cheaper, 89-91 B16A. The electronics/ignition are different, the tranny isnt made for your chassiss, along with a few other things.
If i were you, I'd try to get a hold of an Si coupe engine and maybe think about getting an ECU jumper to use an OBD1 ECU...

I suggest the B16A1, because I can't stand the hydro trannys. (at least in the B16A3 from a Del Sol)

...a lot more $$ is going to be spent on making it all work in a 98 civic. Cable B16 trannies suck anyways....the 3rd gear synchros always go out.
