Ebay just plain owns your ass.
In the past few weeks I have effectively turned junk in my garage which I had no use for whatsoever (and would have eventually taken to the dump or given away) into about $250 via ebay.
I then turned around and converted that to a set of 13x6 Enkei wheels ($150), Simpson Racing boots (new-$33) for Renee, 2 ECUs ($5 each), and a foam lined pistol case ($9) for my timing light. And I still have some money left over.
Now thats pretty damned cool. Seriously.
I'm finding myself sorting through my attic looking for any other crap I have no use for.

that's not so far-fetched!
I know someone who doesn't work anymore... all she does is frequent local yard sales, pick up crap for dirt cheap, then turn around and sell it on Ebay for a 1000% profit!!

Easily!!! sell them as "now you can have a matching wheel for your spare tire to ride on!!"

I puffed up my racing budget by more that $250 too - selling all of the stuff legally removed under SS rules. Airbags, foglights and switch, and even the parcel shelf cover. Heck, I got $15.00 for the center caps off of my stock wheels but anything le$$ than that becomes a labor drain, packing and shipping.
One thought - it appears that marque-specific boards might generate better $ for any given part. The buyers are not so, um, sophisticated.
K
PS - The airbag market is soft right now, with excess supply capacity. Used to be that you could buy three race tires for a pair out of a Golf...

Get two pieces of plate glass to sit on the wheels and you have matching end tables for some motorsports junkie.
Several years ago we did some garage and basement cleaning on Ebay and a few other on-line places and raised over $2000 that we sunk back into the rest of our lives. A year ago after over 20 years storage in his attic, my dad dumped my extensive teenage beer can collection at my house. I've cataloged it and started studying beer can sales on Ebay and hope to soon free up some garage space and generate some racecar funds. Now that my wife has sold her horse, a lot of her equine supplies will hit the auctions as well.
Anyone care to share their standard Ebay keywords for searches? At least 3-4 times per week, my regular ones are: Devin, SCCA, CRX, Koni . You never know what might pop up.

hmm, you know what, that may actually work. On the rear side of th wheel, there is a huge whole from where a chunk of metal was ripped off. The other one just has a very nasty bend/crack.

Wow Giles, welcome to two weeks ago! Just kidding. Seriously, ebay rules. Soooooo much stuff got fold on ebay be me over the past 3 years its silly. Everything that OPM took off my car when they did the suspension work got sold, even the stuff I almost threw away. Don't think that in the 9 months after I left my old job that I wasn't farkin "Cyber-Sanford." LOL.
When you get ready to buy electronics, ebay kicks nads, too. My dad wasn't too thrilled when I told him about how I got the same SONY home theater receiver that he paid $600 for from Crutchfield brand new in the box off ebay for $230. Yamaha powered bub he paid $300 for? Mine, identical and almost new, in perfect shape for $90. Ebay rulez.

my entire racing car was an ebay child!
The only thing i did not buy form ebay was the brake lines and the harnesses. Didnt quite want to skimp there
Oh.. and 2 tires since i flatspotted them @ Roebling !
then I put the car up on ebay! and now i am at square 1 again

I actually make a profit on my side hobby of demolition derbies. We're always searching for real cheap cars. Then we sell every thing we can on e-bay. And then smash it up. So far our income is higher than expenses. Not by a lot though. If we had more land to store cars, me and my brother have seriously considered towing junk cars, selling parts, and seeing if we could make a living at it.
I agree eBay is great for selling stuff you don't need anymore. I've probably sold about $3000 worth of used stuff over the last few years. I'm always a bit weary of buying NEW stuff on there at too-good-to-be-true prices though. If its just coming from an individual who bought something and never used it, its probably OK, but if you find a business selling new stuff on there real cheap, do some research before you buy...it could be counterfeit.
60 Minutes or one of those other news shows did an interesting story a few weeks ago about how much counterfiet stuff is being pilfered on eBay. They went to China and bought some fake Callaway golf clubs for practically nothing, brought them back to the US and had them looked at by professionals. From the outside the stuff looked amazingly real, but when they started taking the supposed titanium clubs apart, they discovered they were steel. Even the fancy Callaway bag was a direct copy of a real one, but made with cheaper materials. They say a lot of this stuff is showing up on eBay for cheap, but the sellers are making big profits since they pay very little for the stuff since its fake.
As most of you probably know, buyer beware when it comes to eBay.

I have sold a few things on Ebay it is nice to turn my junk into another persons treasure. Even if things only go for a couple bucks it is more that I had when it was just taking up space.
yeah ebay rocks... sometimes its hard to get $$4 out of Honda-tech'ers too.
So, whats the deal on those Enkei 13x6 wheels for $150?
I needa set, so how light, where, how much and how did you find them? thanks in advance

You just gotta keep looking for wheels every day or two. I got lucky this time because JeffS actually found them and put me on to it. It was a lucky find since the seller had spelled "Enkei" incorrectly in the listing.
If you go in and search for just "wheels" or "Honda Wheels" you get too many returns. Since very few manufacturers made 13x6 wheels I narrow my search by using manufacturers names. I use Enkei, Momo, Mugen, MSW, TSW, and BBS.
Also, depending upon what width of tire you plan to use you can go with old BBS BMW 2002 wheels. They have an offset range of about 13 to 20, but if you use a narrow enough tire they will snug up under the fenders. I've seen them sell for as little as $40 for an entire set.
The Enkeis are old, so they aren't light. About 14lbs each which is average for older 13x6 wheels. For about $37 each that isn't too bad and its an entire set of wheels for 1/2 the cost of one Volk. They are in great shape too. They appear to have been in storage somewhere for quite a while.

I use to scam ebay in college and made some good money for awhile. I was only scamming the system. This is what i did, there is an editing program called "Final cut Pro" for mac. Anyway its about a $800-1000 program at any store. I use to go into my college computer book store and buy the educational verson (which was exactly the same as the normal version, and it didnt even say educational verson on the box). I would buy it there for $320 and sell it on Ebay anywhere from $600-800 with in a 3 day auction. It was great and I did that for a couple of months until Apple and Ebay cought on to it.

It wasnt against the law, they could only stop my auctions. Its funny, there were many college students doing this and Ebay finally caught on and that was that. Also right after Ebay caught on I noticed that the new boxes for Final Cut Pro had a big "educational only version" sticker on the box, so that caused a problem with selling them.
I stopped selling them, I made some good money while I did it, I have a couple of other friends that were doing it with me who are now banned from Ebay with their name and credit card because they kept trying to sell them anyway.

When I was in college I'd go back to the local junkyard in my home town and scour over CRX's and anything else I could find...it was in KS so the yard didn't realize the market value of a lot of the stuff...like MINT 90-91 CRX Si seats for 75 bux a pair, MINT hatch covers for 10 or 15 bux, climate controls for 20, I bled that yard dry, and got close to 500 dollars out of it...most of which either went back into my car or towards beer....both were a worthwhile investment
