Default how to check if turbo good or bad??

hey wassup guyz i was wondering is there any way to check if the turbo is bad w/out taken it apart? no huh? its just so hard to put back.. i have a greddy 15g turbo.

i always thought that if u can move the shaft in and out on the intake side then it needs a rebuild... this is coming from a turbo n00b though

yep,
grab the shaft,

try to move it in/out, and from side to side,

and try spinning the turbo blades.

there should be little to no in/out play

you can get away with some side to side play,
but it depends on the type of turbo, and type of bearings it uses,

the turbo should definetely spin freely,
like you should be able to flick it with your finger, and it'll spin and coast to a stop.

also look for any chips/cracks in the blades.
and look for cracks around the wastegate flapper(if its internally wastegated).

some turbos dont spin as much. I dont think my greddy will spin very much after you flick it.

oil will drip out of the turbine housing - dp area and smoke will come out of tailpipe.

im pretty sure my turbo is good but my valves are bent and rings are bad im just paranoid..
