Default How to get the polished finish from painted wheels?

Does anyone know how to get the shiny polished finish from any painted wheels? (i.e. 94-95 GSR or 99-00 Si rims) What do I need to do the job? Would Dremel work? What chemical compounds are needed? I know it take a frigging long time to do it, but I'm not in a hurry. Thanks.

Clean wheels. Wet sand thoroughly with 800 sandpaper. Apply five coats of clear coat. I recommend applying one coat, wait a day, apply next coat, etc. Prior to applying next coat wet sand with 1000 sandpaper. After final coat, wet sand with 1000-1500-2000 sand paper. After the sanding the wheels should have a very very smooth finish albeit dull. Use a buffing wheel and rubbing compound. When that's done use finishing compound. Wheels should look shiny now. Wax the wheels. Use finishing compound again. Wheels should be shiny enough to see your own *** on.

That's the cheap solution.

If you can fit a wheel in your oven you can trim it down to a three day project.

Default THIS IS WHAT YOU DO.

go to autostore, and buy "rockmiracle" it is a varnish remover that doesnt damage rubber. DO NOT USE SAND PAPER. it will cost you about $18 for a gallon. DO NOT GET ON SKIN. will hurt somethin fierce. this stuff is great. it will remove all finishes (painted) within a few minutes. then polish with mothers. if you would like to see what i mean, email me, and ill send you a pick of my truck wheels.

I believe he wanted to make his already painted wheels glossy, not strip it down and make it glossy then.

That was what you wanted to do, yes?

Ok, let me clarify what I want...

I have a rim that comes painted silver from the factory.

I want to get rid of the paint and get a finish that is same/similar to that of '99-'00 Civic Si rims. (notice how it's polished and smooth.)

So, which is it? Use the paint remover and done? Or, sand it?

Thanks.

FAWK DAT ****. Is easier said then done. You'll start one wheel and won't even finish it. I try it already, just to much FRIGGIN work. Well, good luck. I have one half *** looking wheel on the car. Hahahahaha
