Camshaft install horror story...beware (a little long)
Here's my hellish story...just had to vent after my nightmare of a day-
7:30pm Thursday: After car cooled down, removed Skunk2 cams and began to prep head to install OEM cams
9:00pm Thursday: Everything bolted down, OEM cams in, TDC #1 piston...**** won't start up
12:00am Friday: After dismantling and checking all parts of head 2 times over...**** doesn't start. I vow to find problem, start car and drive home...friends leave me on deserted neighborhood street.
3:00am Friday: After checking and rechecking TDC and dizzy correctness 4 times...car doesn't start...go to sleep in car...no blankets...no pillows...uncomfortable Integra seats...very cold...damn...
3:30am Friday: Think it's morning! Yay now I have light to work with...ah ****...it's not morning...zzz...brrrr....
4:00am to 6:30am Friday: Periodically awake and shivering...mother f*cker...think about why car won't start...asleep again...
6:45am Friday: Sun's up and I am too...calling friend over to help figure it out...
12:00pm noon Friday: Too hungry to work more...tired too...go get some food...
2:00pm Friday: Realize why car wouldn't start...put Skunk2 cams back in...car starts first try...damn...
Hope that wasn't too long and boring, but that's the way my night of hell went. As it turns out, the difference in Valve spring tension was so drastic that my OEM cam lobes weren't even enough to open the valves to start the car. I didn't have the right tools to do a valve adjustment...which I should have thought of to begin with...and had previously at least been able to drive my car down to a shop after replacing the OEM cams with the Skunk2 cams for a valve adjustment before...motor wouldn't even start up at all after putting normal cams back in...damn did I feel dumb...LESSON LEARNED.

didnt have the simple tools to do a valve adjustment, but you wanted to dig in to a cam removal and install? didnt understand this story at all. why would your friends leave you on the road? i just dont understand. can someone clear this up for me?
Wow, I had almost the same situation w/ my jg to ctr cams intall. We started at 1pm and ended at 11:30 pm.
After installing the ctr cams in, the car woulnd't start. First we thought it was the distributer, so we waited 4 hours to get another one.
Then we started installing and reinstalling the cams.
After about 9 hours, we figured that it was just the valved adjustment!!

Why did you sleep in the car?? I wouldn't start, right? So unless a thief brought a tow truck, chances are it wasn't going anywhere. I guess there is always that change the thief was a honda tech and could figure out why it would start, fix it, then steal it!!
Haha that sucks. atleast you got it running. I know how bad that sucks i once slept in my integra and i have sparco revs (non-reclinealbe) also it was on a road trip in alaska.
Damn dude, that didn't sound fun at all. From now on I would make sure you don't leave anything out before "finishing" a job. My valve adjustment on my cams called for looser settings than Honda oem specs. So they can definately make a difference.

I don't understand why anybody would ever swap cams and not do a valve lash adjustment. Hell, you should probably do it even if you just remove and re-install the same camshafts!

From now on, anyone that removes their cams for any reason, do a valve adjustment. simple
