get a dual 4ohm sub and wire it parallel, the end result will be 2 ohms

Depends on your amp. What kind of amp do you plan on using? What are the specs on it? Some amps have max power at 4ohms others at 2ohms.

This amp has it's max power at 2 ohms
125X2 @ 4ohms, 250X2 @ 2ohms, 500X1 @ 2ohms bridged

It looks like your amp is not 1 ohm stable so you should get a 2 ohm DVC.
Running a 4 ohm DVC in parallel will result in a 2 ohm load but you would have to bridge your amp to run it properly resulting in more or less a 1 ohm load which your amp will struggle to handle.
If you buy a 2 ohm amp you can have 2 ohms to each channel which your amp should handle fine.

that amp can run at 250 each so just get two DVC 4 ohm subs, wire them seperately to 2 ohms, and wire them to amp each to run in stereo.

I have a similar question and I need help as well.... this stuff is so darn confusing..

I have a PPI PCX480 amp and it puts out these specs:

4x80 @ 4ohms
4x150 @ 2ohms
2x320 @ 4ohms

I plan to run it in the bridged mode to get 2x320 to power 2 subs. When I choose a sub that has dual voice coils... there's a choice of either dual 2ohm or dual 4ohm. I'm just going to run 1 sub per channel (each speaker will run 320 watts), so I guess they're not running parallel or series. Which speaker should I choose for this configuration? The dual 2ohm or the dual 4ohm? I'm new at this so I appreciate the help!!

If I am understanding you question right you should just get 2 single 4 ohm subs.

hmmm... because the speakers I wanted to get have dual voice coils... so I'm not sure if I should get the 2ohm or 4ohm ones.
