Need help with h22 indentification!!!
After MANY discussions about what kind of h22 we're puttin in my 98 EX, I turn to someone out here for some help.
I'm not sure if it's the TYPE S version or not. All I remember when i ordered it from Jarco Motors, it was a Japanese right-hand drive half-cut. I think the guy from there said it WAS a japanese spec, but how to i go about identifying if it is? I know it's just got the DOHC VTEC on the valve cover, and I DO remember the guy saying something about a BB4 Prelude, and i believe something about 1995. The Year model i guess......
So how do i go about identifying and actually knowing which it is. I wanna know if its the one with the 227hp stock, or the one with like 190. Or something else? THANKS!

The Type S didn't come out until the 5th gen prelude ie. 97+ model.
You've got the basic 10.6:1 cr H22A. Still better than the 10:1 cr H22A1 or H22A4.

What specs do you want to know? There is a thread in the prelude forum covering all of the various prelude motors. A JDM H22A is rated at 200 hp, but that's a pretty pointless number considering that you have no idea what shape the motor is in.
the JDM type-s H22a engine is equiped with ATTS, Type-s cams, pocket port, and 11:1 CR, AND the all improtant RED valvecover!!!
The JDM S-spec H22a is pretty much the type-S without the ATTS but with an OEM LSD instead. Type S is defianately more common than S-spec. I guess that the only real way to figure it out is to pull the cams and head and take some measuremnts. good luck and Hope that you got the good one. Oh and defiantely check for Satan_srv's engine/Car thread in the Prelude forum, it's got a bunch o purdy pics too.
