Default muffler or full cat-back?

I am interested in a exhaust for my car but is there a real difference in sound between a catback and muffler? Remember I have a auto civic so performace doesnt really matter.

The Catback will be louder. Mufflers just add alittle noise. I think when you get a Catback you increase the diameter of the whole exhaust piping. It should be louder and you should get a deeper and more un-ricey sound

depends on the muffler too. If performance isnt a goal for you and your autotragic civic, then I would recommend getting a muffler if you must have something. Seems like you just want the sound. Why waste 300-500 or more on a catback?? The difference is usually a catback increses the diameter of your exhaust piping. A muffler just welds onto your stock piping

Maybe you should get neither. Why would you want to drive around in a loud car with the express purpose of being loud?

buy a muffler and use a custom cat back pipe from your exhaust shop. ask them to try minimize the bends on the pipe. Don't forget to buy a silencer coz you gonna get sick of the ricey sound. (muffler around+custom pipe = 60 + 100 =160, much cheaper then cat backs.

Just go to your local auto parts store and get a chrome tip for your factotry muffler. Then you can be just as cool as all the other ricers, but w/o the noise!

you will see a gain either way. full cat - mid to high in the RPM range. muffler - high RPM range

do what you want man. your the one who has to listen to the exhaust day in and day out, from my own experience a i would atleast get a axleback if not a custom cat, dont just buy a muffler and hang it up there, will look bad and sounds worse.

I would recomend a full catback, but if its only looks you are after, not performance then go for the rear section.

whats the diff
a muffler is crap with stock pipping all its doing is givin u like 2hp and making your car sound worst.
with a catback your changing back pressure and changing width and diameter of your pipping. most caback is 2.25 inch and with a catback your car will be faster than a muffler
a muffler u barely feel a diff. catback makes your car happy and sound good.

performance oriented people won't put a muffler on stock piping, the whole reason for that loud and open canister is for less exhaust restriction. Ricers just get the muffler for noise. Full cat-back
