B&M sport shifter for CRX = good
Just wanted to share....if you're looking for a good, reliable, solid shifter to put in your CRX, the B&M sport shifter is definitely the way to go. It's made of stainless steel, rigid as hell, reduces shift throw by a larger margin than i've ever noticed, and will save you from breaking one of those cheap aluminum ones off in your hand like I did. If you shift hard and race your car at the track, it's definitely the way to go, and comes with a lifetime warranty. I'd recommend B&M to anyone.
Just trying to save people from buying a cheap, 10.00 EBay shifter; it's just not worth it to do that. Save the extra money and buy a good, quality shifter that you never have to doubt and will allow you to shift with confidence.

psht....my friend was in the middle of a trade transaction when he saw a B&M layin there never been installed, with me in mind, offered the guy 20 bucks and he accepted. Then he fowarded the deal to me at cost...GOT YOU ALL BEAT!
I love it, and so does everyone else thats ever felt the throw of my shifter. Tho i dont understand this whole "hard shifting" thing thats breaking your shifters, your gonna end up replacing more than just the shifter...i can easily outshift my tranny with the B&M, and its probably from all those hard shifts i used to do...ive learned the art of shitfting FAST but not HARD...saves your tranny

</TD></TR></TABLE>Well what I was talking about when I said hard shifting was racing, but ironically the shifter broke under regular driving conditions. I just bought a cheap shifter made out of aluminum, which i'll NEVER do again. It's given me nothing but problems since I got it.

I had the b&m in my dx, I bought it for somwhere around 45-60 shipped as well, AWESOME, tight as hell and very very short throw.
It will be the first mod I put on my recently purchased stock 89 SI, that and the ES bushing master kit sitting in my room.(which btw comes with new bushings/bolts/washers for the shifter portion and the linkage portion at the tranny.

Short shifters is the worse mod you can put on the car. All you are doing is killing your syncros in the transmission. You still gotta push and pop the clutch to shift, and if you cant get it all in with a normal throw shifter, than you shouldnt be at the track.
Thats my opinion on short shifters, I ruined 2 trannies with it, and if you dont wanna ruin your tranny you still gotta catch the gear before you can pop the clutch.

Well in your case, you had a bad experience maybe two, alot of it is how people drive there cars, and how they shift.
I asked the question above becuase I am a highly qualified transmission specialist<U></U> at Noble Ford here in Des Moines. Ive torn down countless amounts of ford/mercury trannys and a few honda's right at work, the reason most trannys go is due to improper lubrication or bearing failure(resulting in lots of vibration making shifting less smooth, IE more work on the syncro's.)
I have had short shifters on all my cars in the past, so have my friends, so have alot of racers out there. If you are nice to your car it will be nice to you, alot of people think now they have a shorter shift they can SLAM gears and that ***** up your tranny YES, and like you said already if people do this already with a reg. shifter then they shouldnt get a short shifter.
Im not dissin on you, I agree they can increase wear and tear, but I dont think its as bad or should be thought of as a bad mod, if you buy a good one, and upgrade the bushings(THATS THE BIG TICKET THERE and that is also what you will feel the most)
Im buried in transmissions/fluid all day auto/manual it doesnt matter on all cars but mostly fords and I consider myself a pretty creditable source, since most people that think they know the in's and outs of there cars wont touch there tranny(atleast 95%) and the average civilian doesnt even know what one is, which btw makes it hard to explain why they now have to fork over 1200 for a new one.
Just some food for thought, dont take it the wrong way.

lol... the tranny guy is right. Honda puts a super short shifter on the NSX type R... it doesn't blow the tranny. Ever seen a new vipers shifter? Short as hell. You guys need to get a clue.
You children need to learn how to drive.

Yeah. B&M equipped here, and although the shifter's loose now, but that's to do w/the loose exchange rod knuckle thing, no grinds.
You can't bang thru gears and expect it to hold up longer.
When I install my LS 5th I'll show you hopefully not much wear and tear on the J1 tranny.
And tranny guy, good reply to straighten it out.
I just hope I don't screw anything up when messin with my tranny. But with instructions I'll attempt it all.

Transmissions are really not that hard, when I first stepped into the shop I was a gen. maitenence guy and a year later Im one of only two tranny specialists at the dealership, I had some basic knowledge and prior training at vocational school, but Ford took care of me, i worked next to the mad scientist(my mentor, the only other tranny guy) for 6 months side by side, while I also took extra courses, and a few seminars outta state(paid for by my wonderful boss btw) to really help me out.
The rest is confidence, if you can see how somthing goes together mechanically and how power flows you can rebuild trannys(biggest thing is just having the right tools to dissasemble one)
Manuals are cake, very simple, you have gears driving gears thats it, autos get more complicated but nothing you cant get used to.
The hardest part of being a tranny guy is driveability ill get a car from the driveability guy asking me to take it for a drive and see if its just not the tranny actin up and I have to give him an honest opinion of what I think it is, if im wrong he'll be outta good paycheck and after my ***.
If you have confidence and access to the right tools, you too can rebuild tranny's, dont be afraid to email me or pm me anytime.

I totally agree with you, but basically, if you shift normal with a short shifter, then really you just waisted your money thats all your saying? right?
Which I do agree, I just like um and for 60 bucks its a cheap easy/install mod. I like the shorter shifts just while Im driving, To me I feel like I can actually feel the tranny more, its just a personal preference, but I dont slam um like most do, as stated above.
Your right too, its not really counter productive cause its not taking away productivity its the same as a regular throw shifter/stock. Its just a waste of money, but then again so is a short ram intake, it makes a nice noise but usually you lose hp. If not just stay the same.
If you want a better feeling shift, change your tranny fluid, upgrade your bushings and tighten your linkage. Your shifting will be increased dramatically.
I do believe though it helps to decrease misshifts, although if your misshifting you just suck at driving its not really that hard to do, but the throw from gear to gear is shorter, you have less chance of pulling the shifter out of a nice straight throw and in turn grinding a syncro.
Just my opinion.
