Does the 98 Civic engine have VTEC? QUICK!

Default Does the 98 Civic engine have VTEC? QUICK!

i'm gonna buy a 98 civic ex coupe. i know the ex comes with SOHC VTEC. but when i went to look at the car, the valve cove only said SOHC. has the engine been swapped out?

how do i tell if the engine is the correct one?

yes it does. Just to be sure...check the left upper portion of the valve cover for a vtec solenoid:

And check for the engine code of D16Y8 on the front of the block.

A.) it's VTEC, you **** &
B.) it doesn't have to say VTEC to be VTEC.

If I write the word "Turbo" on my valve cover do I have turbo?

and BTW, It's "VTEC" .... NOT .... "VTECH"

i think from like 94-95 some of the valve covers said vtec on them. but i know that they do not have to say vtec. Do what bauley said and look for the solenoid, thats what i do

My 93 Si with a D16Z6 says HONDA! on it, but nothing else. Definately has VTEC.

I figured sohc vtecs have the spark plugs near the exhaust side while non-vtecs had the spark plugs up by the intake side. Are there exceptions to this?

96-00 civic ex's and hx's just had honda on the valve cover if I remember correctly.

I wanna put twin turbo on my valve cover then maybe it might come true.

what does it matter, its still sohc. just get a marker and write it on the valve cover if it will make you happy.

ALL 96-00 SOHC Civics had the same "HONDA" valve cover
