A Bypass valve on ANY CAI for ANY car helps kep water from getting into the motor. CAI have a tendency to pick up water when it rains fromthe road and suck it right into the motor, the bypass valve helps catch the little water dropletrs and save your motor, If you put on a CAI you are better off paying the extra money for the bypass vale then to pay $100's for a repair job.

I hope this helped answer your question.

the bypass valve is way up in the engine bay because if the entire filter were to become submerged in water then the air would flow in through the bypass valve and not through the submerged filter in the bumper, i dont think it catches little droplets that make it through the filter cuz a few droplets of water wont hurt the engine anyways

Uh, yeah, I don't think the bypass valve acts as a filter for incoming water elements. sooooo, forget that.

The bypass valve is what it's called, a valve.

The best example I can think of is with a straw. Take a straw and cut a small section out of the middle. Don't cut it in half, just a small hole out of one side. Then try to suck water out of a glass with the straw. It'll be hard to get water through the straw because the hole in the middle is providing the air supply when the end of the straw is blocked.

The hole in the straw is the bypass valve. It provides air only when it is needed.
