plz dont yell at me im 15 and dont know much
. ok. when i get a car its definitely gonna b a civic (probably 99 or 00). if i boost it ive HEARD...taht the stock engine cant really take it and that u do a b16 swap. 1 how much does this cost? 2 are there different b16 engines? how much does a good intake and exaust cost for all this? or should i do something cheaper to it...i wanna make the car able to beat a 00 mustang gt.

Buddy, looks like want to get the car for all the wrong reasons
Your first priority should be moving your young but from point A to point B , and THEN maybe work on your car...... What's the point of buying a car to beat a mustang?

Well newer civics 01+ I don't beleive are worth the $$ IMO. But do as you will. To make the civic beat a mustang its very possible, but remember this, he can do far few mods for less $$ and blow your pants off. If its stock it wouldn't be much of an issue, if not you are screwed w/o dumping crazy amounts of $$ into your ride. Good luck.
ya its probably all stock. or maybe they thought putting an exaust on will make it 2x as good. well im 15 so in 2 years ill get my provisional. then ill have enough moeny by the time im 18 to put in mods.
so about the b16. lets say i put in a b16a. (dunno wut it is but im just using it as an example) i dont know how to put in an entire engine so how much would that cost me with the engine itself? can i get any money for hte stock engine?
can the regular stock engine in an ex coupe 99 or 00 civic handle i guess "normal" (wutever is normal for a 00 civic) amounts of boost?

You're a stupid kid.
Like any 15yr old you are, I'm telling you that in general; not from what I heard you say; and yes I have the benifit of the doubt to express that towards you.
You got plenty of time my friend; search and learn and when you're about to come across a car you'll know what to do and get, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY WHAT NOT TO DOThis site is extremely helpful.
Not knowing what motors are even out there and already lookin to beat a damn mustang?
Search around this site, it takes a lot time to learn, especially at a young age.
Have fun and good luck
(oh and to give you the right direction; you're not nearly ready for a swap; keep your grades up and save some money and do a little research)

u didnt have to call me stupid :_(. ive done a lot of research on cars and i wanna learn mroe about them. its not that i wanna b the fastest as much as cars are interesting.
hope i dont get yelled at but...my dads volvo 240 1993 is leaking oil. in the morning theres a small puddle every day in the garage. i think its the gasket but then again im stupid!! jk. how much would it cost to fix wutever's wrong? everybody here knows so much!

don't listen to that, if your going to buy an ex and swap a b16a, buy an older ex like a 95' or 96', it would be cheaper on insurance and car payments. I own a 99 si, which comes with a b16a stock, i paid 9000 for it with 80k miles. A 95 ex would probably run you around 5 or 6k. Ab16a motor would probably cost between 1500 and 3000. If you want a faster motor with more horse power, go with the GSR b18C (about $2500) wich spits out 178 horses to the wheels, the type r b18c5 spits out 197 horses to the wheels(about $5000), the b16a spits out 160 horses to the wheels.
All in all kid, do what you want to do, research and research and search and search, you can't learn from everyone else, youll have to read up yourself. have fun and keep us posted on the situations

B16A = 2500 160 CRANK HP (170 JDM)

B18C-R = 4500 195 CRANK HP (200 JDM)
To the thread starter...I remember when I was 15. Dont even worry about doing a motor swap yet. Best thing you can do right now for your car is suspension...get a good coilover/shock setup and some nice wheels...then do the usual intake/header/exhaust combination and see what that does for you. If you really wanna beat a mustang GT and a 350z...why don't you get a zex 75 shot? its like 1/5 of the price and you can install it yourself. Motor swap installs cost about 1000...so you're looking at about 2500 B16 swap + 300 shipping + 1000 you're getting close to 4000 bucks...so dont even worry about that for now

God you're a ******* idiot. Those are the CRANK HP #'s. JDM engines are rated in metric PS not HP. The jdm engines are rated at 170 PS to the crank for B16, 180 PS for the B18C SiR-G, and 200 PS for the B18C-R. So the 178, 197, and 168 are standard CRANK HP numbers as opposed to metric CRANK PS numbers.
And this ******* clown IMed me with this...

Don't believe me dude? Go here http://www.mr2ownersclub.com/converter.htm and do the conversion. Sad...you've owned 6 civics and have been working with civics and think that B16's put 168 to the wheels...and then you come try and tell me that i'm wrong by showing me a site with PS -> HP corrected numbers. Why dont you think before you post.

Yikes.
Bauley is right though.
Whp and crank ratings are totally different.
I'll offer up my own whp from all 3 engines I've owned or still own:
B16A2: 143whp 102ft-lbs. of torque - rated at 160hp CRANK
B18C1: 150whp 122ft-lbs. of torque - rated at 170hp CRANK
B18C5: 176whp 130ft-lbs. of torque - rated at 195hp CRANK
As for the topic starter, my recommendation would be to get a 1992-1993 Civic Si or DX hatchback since they are pretty quick stock and they weigh a lot less than the 1996-up Civics.
Then you will have a pretty quick car to begin with, and after the swap of your choise you will be quicker than any B16A 1996-2000 Coupe.
My 2 cents...

sorry for bringing back this thread but wuts a zex 75 shot?? i woulda asked this yesterday but it only give me 5 posts per day. is that cuz im a trial user?
75 shot of nitrous...its about 500 bucks
PROS - Cheap HP, 75 HP more at full throttle, lose less money if it gets stolen than a turbo
CONS - ILLEGAL if its hooked up on the street, have to fill the bottle frequently if you use it a lot

im glad you are researching, and really happy to see that you aren't getting raosted.
but you don't even have a car, and won't be getting 1 for 2 more years?
keep reading, and keep saving. don't be in a rush, and do it right. don't nickel and dime your performance.
2 years is a long time. your taste may change, and the availabilty will be different when you do decide to get a car.

i think he is just trying to figure things out and asking questions not really looking to buy just looking at prices to see if thats the route he should go
As for zxcv i think you should go with a 92'-00' they all take a b16 pretty easily but the 01'+ dont. if your are looking to beat a Mustang i would look into 99-00' Si and turbo it they have really comprehensive kits out there even on this site that would include everything you need to get it running strong and if you stay with it for a while it shouldnt be that hard to learn about them i know when i first started a few years ago i thought a trubo was untouchable for me cause they are complicated but after reading posts and doing minor research i have come to the conclusion its not as hard as it looks depending how far you take it

My personal thoughts...
Get a cheap cx hatch 96-up (i like those front ends) then get the nitrous... Juice it all the time... Eventually you will blow your stock engine and then you can buy the b18c1 or get a b16a and parts for the turbo... But learn on soemthing you can afford to blow...
