Default Could I....CF front bumper

Here is a pic of my front bumper I bought.

How hard would it be to cover this in CF?

You can't just slap CF onto something. You need to make a buck first.

first of all, ive decided ill leave the flames up to the pro's....

but to give you a real answer, i dunno where your planning on getting a spool of carbon fiber but even if you could i'd say it'd be pretty damn hard weaving it yourself and molding it....

all assuming you mean carbon fiber, and not a sticker with a design that almost resembles carbon fiber.

I mean buying the cf cloth already wove. What do you mean a buck? I just thought it would be something different than what everyone else has. Never worked with CF. Just need some helpful info.

youll have to buy resin to coat it with to make it harden, and if your smart youll get it sprayed with a coat of uv protection....but i dont see the "logic" in this "project" at all, so................................................ .................................................. ....yep

It's the mold that you lay the C/F into. You have to make a buck(mold) out of fiberglass so that you can sand it down and shape any faults that may happen. Then you can lay C/F into the buck and make the bumper. You need a couple of different tools to make C/F products.

Use the search button and try to find info on how to make C/F products.

Nope, Think about it, If you put C/F over the bumper it will be bigger then the actual bumper. If it is bigger, will it bolt on?

NO

an obvious point but i think this guy just somehow wants to COVER his bumper with CF and make bolt them on together....if im not mistakin this is how alotta cheap cf products are made (half CF / half fiberglass)

im still failing to see the point regardless...even if he were to make an entire CF bumper i'd think he'd only be saving a couple pounds, bumpers are so light to begin with...you say you wanna be different? well as the owner of a CF hood, if you wanna be different...keep your car completely carbonfiberless.

The bumper would crack very easily if made in this fashion as well. You really need an autoclave to make a CF bumper with some strength to it. Be happy with what you got, I personally think it's the second best bumper out there after the mugen/ww, though I'd shave out a couple of the body lines in it. Maybe you should do that if you want it to be "custom"

I'm guessing he wants to cover the bumper with C/F, in which case he probably needs the FoliaTec stuff
At 20E or so for a 50x50 piece, I'm guestimating around 200E (or 250$) easily to cover the whole bumper. NOT worth it......

why dont u try wrapping the lip first. if you pull it off clean go and try the bumper. looks like a challenge. personally a friend and i cf wrapped the bottom part of a mugen bumper and that was a p.i.t.a also we used the same UV stuff they use for surfboards so they dont yellow.

Could try that. The bumper is the R33 Skyline front. I will take the bottom lip off, don't want it to be so low. Might try to wrap that.
