I know this is my first post here, but I'm not a newb by far.
I've heard that in Japan there is no distiction between the K-series motors. That they are all stamped w/ K20A even if they are a A2 or A3. Same way with the B-series too, B16A, B18C, etc. Like I said I read this on another forum(can't remember now which one) but it basically said that only the foriegn markets get the # after the letter. This could be totally wrong, but its something to look into. The post I was reading was about a K20A for sell out of japan, it was stamped with just K20A, but had a auto tranny, silver valve cover, and black plastic IM cover and spark plug cover.

I've seen this, but have never actually heard of it in relation to all JDM engines. I mean look at this.

Perfect example. It is exactly what you're saying, but notice how there isn't any pics of the stamp on the block. So maybe this is just someone's way to cope with getting ripped off, and it went "through the grapevine" sort of thing?

you can always do a compression test if its hooked up.....
also to test the lsd if you cant find a stamp; stick two axles in there and turn them

Another way would be to take a spark plug out, shine a flash light on the top of the piston. If you can read it, they are stamped with PRC on them as well...
