need suggestions on minimizing outside noise
hey guys,
any of you use anything besides dynamat/brownbread foil stuff to reduce outside noises? also im not doing this to help the music.. im just tired of hearing exhaust sounds and pebbles hitting underneath my car. ive already sprayed some sound deadner in the wheel wells and didnt really help. give me some DIY tips.

You can take up your carpet and put Rhinoliner down in its place and that'll stop a whole lot of noise. Or you could turn up your music and stop being a bitch.
Mass loaded dampeners (read dynamat, etc...) are not that great at reducing road noise. What they do is weigh down panels (mass loading), which causes their resonant freq. to change. Basically, you'd be much better off with foam padding. You can use anything from $$$ acoustical foam, to the stuff they use to pad carpet.
I have a link to a nice discussion about a similar topic over at caraudiofoum.com. Let me see if I can find it.

yea, egg crate would be the way to go. The other part that would probably help is if you could find a hood insulator, i know honda's don't have them. My neon had it, and when i took it off the car got reasonably louder. Almost a cardboard type material, but thicker and plyable.

no, don't put the egg crate foam on your floorboards.
What I did on my floorboards was pull off the stock tar, and then I installed a thick aluminum backed jute padding, then put my carpet back in...very durable, reflects heat, and keeps the sound down a LOT.
I got the stuff through JCWhitney. It wasn't too expensive.
