I just bought an 81 Civiv 1300 DX!!!
I am surprised by how cool it is. Honda's are just awesome. I needed a little neighborhood run-a-bout until my project car is finished, but just in the last two days I have pretty much decided to keep it and restore it. I don't think there is much by way of performance upgrades for the little niko niko, but that's ok.
I have been a member in the Accord forum for years now, but it will be nice to chat in here now too.
Hope there is no Froshing or anything.

i have a 81 as well! I was makin it into a project car as well! I have the mounts to mount a single cam d16 in there! I was just going to throw some weber carbs on the thing and run it! But i have my hatch now and i have no cash! Great cars my friends dad was telling me about racing them back in the day! Just to let you know the asccord motors fit into those of the same year (according to my friends dad) He said he loved his 81 one and raced it in guam! Good luck and show lots of pics!!

Sorry for getting back to this slow. No internet at home is slowing me down. Same reason for the no pix.
The engine is in fantastic condition. I didn't even haggle with the guy over the $850 price I was so impressed. I mean, that little thing is really torquey. Have you guys found that to be true of your engines too? I had no idea this littel car had so much *****. If I just stiffened up the suspension a bit and put a little more rubber on the road then I think it would be a fantastic little performer. And even though there are some other problems, pretty much everything can be repaired without major replacements.
First thing is that it has some leaks into the cabin. Those little slits on the hood look really cool, but they allow water to pool up over the shock tower. Then it was getting in behind this lose grommit in the firewall, travelling behind the dash, sitting in the floorboard, and giving birth to mold in the carpet. Now my 3 year old says it stinks like "grampa's boat". I told her to be nicer to her future car. But anyway, I think have those leaks fixed.
Then there is body rust. Obviously in the floorpans, a bit in the rocker panels, and some more on the outer body panels. Good news is that none of it is terminal. I am positive that I can sand it all out, prime and paint the little guy and have that fixed. No expensive new parts there!
Hey but the clutch makes a humming sound when i push it in. It's a really mechanical sound. Any ideas? I had been thinking the culprit was something along the lines of the throughout bearing, but wasn't sure yet.
Tell me more about racing them. I am really interested in knowing what i can do to improve it. I actually just installed some 45 DCOE Webers on my Bimmer. It would be awesome to put a bigger 2bbl on this. Anyone know of any good web sites for these cars?
