I have searched and read just about every topic with the same time of problems. People offen say its the axles but i have new axles.

Problem : When accelerating and underbreaking - Even around turn's this noise is pretty much any time besides when just riding at a steady pace on a straight road.
The noise is a loud cracking sound. Sounds like its on the left side of the car.

Any ideas?

 

does the sound go away when you press the clutch in

 

it could be the berings

 

Nope, the problem does not go away with the clutch depressed - Its only when i hit bumps // slow down or stop // or accelerate.

Pretty define "cracking" sound.

Loose motor mount? Does your gear shifter move more then like 1-2" when you hit bumps or whatever?

 

I dont notice my shifter moving.

I will check my motor mouts tomarrow and post again.

 

Any ideas?

I will check engine mounts wen i get off work today - But i am pretty sure its not.

Sounds like a very harsh - crack or pop. coming from left side of car in engine bay.

 

Can we get more info on your car, i.e. year and submodel (ex,dx,si etc.)?

check your brakes. Sticky cal or something like that.

 

You may be experiencing binding in the some of the suspension parts or they may need some lube.

If you have an aftermarket camber kit (like full upper mount replacement) they tend to bind more or creek (sometimes sounds like cracking)

 

make sure the calipers have both bolts holding them
one time after I got done doing a brake job I forgot to tighten all the bolts down good and one of them fell out so when I would hit a bump the caliper would smack against the rotor for me

 

Car : 92cx eh2 - Wheels and Lugs have been checked. -

B18C2_sedan - What do you mean by Sticky cal ?

seppuku - No camber kit . - I will go out there tonight and spin the wheel and move it around while the car is on jack stands to see if i can pin point the sound.

ITRacer121 - I checked the calipers and both bolts are there.

The sound sounds like a pop - crack - I know i have told you that befor. But sounds like somthing is skipping teeth. I wonder if my hub had some teeth that got warn down. So my axle is moving about causing that noise.

hmm....i have a similar problem when i'm slowing down and i apply slight pressure to the brake.

some people told me it's something with the caliper or brake pad :: shrug ::

Is the sound you here load?

 

loud ? yes it's noticable if the radio is off and you pay attention, it's almost like a repeated clicking and will stop as the car slows down

 

Yea - Sorry i ment loud.

Like while i am driving over a speed bump - People that are walking close to my car will actually look over - "Its a fairly load sound"

 

If you have replaced both Axles...check your calipers (they may be old and not fully retracting, causing them to click) and wheel bearings (may cause your rotor not to sit or stay even...check by jacking up the from end...make sure the wheel is locked, and check for play in the wheels...if it moves, it's probably your bearings).

Since you are going to check the hubs...
I still say check your axles again...they may not be fully in the transmission or in the hub...it may take you pulling out the axles and re-inserting them.

 

I didnt have to check the majority of the things suggested. I will tomarrow.

But i do have this pic of the axles agaist the tranny case..

Edit - They should be all the way in - I gently taped the big bell housing thing on the end of the axle and it went in. I will try to pull them out and put it back in tomarrow. Any suggestion's for when putting in the axle? What i did was flip a breaker bar upside down and put in on the very edge of the housing. Then tapped it in.

Really? Was the noise pretty loud? Also Do you know what bearing in the tranny they would be talking about?

Damn - Dunno when i will have time for a tranny rebuild .

this is my problem on my car... skunk2 camber kit with tanabe sustec pro coils... they were fine for a long time, then i drove them in the snow for a day or two, going to take it all apart, clean it, lube what i can, and slap it back on...

 

maybe he works, and doesnt have the energy/capability to pull an all nighter. is that supposed to be some ill-fated statement about how you love your car so much more than him, because he cant find the free time to rebuild a tranny?
