Default great idea to combat theft

i was browsing and rx7 forum, and came across this:

... A guy wrote his name, number, address, and driver's license number on a slip of paper that he put in a ziploc bag then he had the tire shop tape the bag on the rims, inside the tires when they mounted his new aftermarket rims. He had a note that said something like: " If you find this note and the repair ticket doesn't match the info provided above these rims are stolen---call the police!" Well--his car was stolen and he got a phone call from the police dept about 4 months later. The thief had gone in to get some different tires mounted and the shop found the note!! I thought this was a clever idea---give it a try next time you're in the tire shop!

aside from the driver's lisence #, i thought this was a great idea, and would help catch the thief in the event of a theft. even if the wheels are sold, that could still at least lead the cops in the right direction.

Wow that is a really good idea. I'm going to do that for sure next time.

I still need to etch my VIN in special spots around my motor and tranny hopefully if it gets stolen, the thieves don't see and sand it off

Good idea. You had better make sure that you will not sell the car (or wheels and tires) with that note still in palce though. New owner may get a very nasty surprise when buying new tires.

For ITR theft, we need to have some heat-proof zip bags for our engine block

Sounds like a good idea to me.

What would happen if the note comes untaped? It wouldnt make the wheel seem out of balance would it?

great idea, what kind of tape do you think?

duct tape loses most of its tackiness in the cold.

awesome but I think Id forget it was in there, and if I ever sold the car, might be a rude surprise for the new owner. you would have to leave yourself some kinda reminder, like maybe staple something to your title to remind you before you hand over the car to have the tire dismounted and the note removed.

stupidest idea I've ever heard.........there's still no proof that the guy acutally stole them. only that he had them in his possession. unknowingly possessing stolen property isn't a crime. Tard

Actually it is a crime....possesion of stolen property is a pretty serious offence. You don't have to be the person that stole them just to have charges filed against you....Tard

edit: By the way I think this is a great idea and notes will be going in the Spoons next time I buy tires

wow, nice... forgive the majority of us for trying to come up with creative ways to keep our car, or in the event of some crackhead steals them, attempt to make them pay for what they did. i dunno about your state bub, but here in new york, if you are in POSSESSION of stolen property, whether you know it or not, you are the one that is arrested.
"officer, i didn't realise this was the woman's purse that got mugged 3 blocks away... thanks you sir, you have a good day too. take care." yeah, that'll happen....

edit: i just noticed you called me a tard. you little *****, i am coming down to virginia in a few months, wanna meet up face to face? you are probably a thief, and don;t like it when people come up with solutions to thwart your ways.

Nifty idea. Got to try that next when I get new tires for the car.

Especially since I don't have a "common" wheels that you see every day.

And if you possess one of my rims with my F'n name taped to the inside of it make sure you let the cops know all about the whole 9/10's thing.... I'm sure they will take your word for it

Believe me you have nothing to worry about that was a fluke. Kinda like when the cable company messes up and you get free ****.... Its rare but it can happen.

If you guys want to protect the car you should check out the new line of alrams with GPS tracking from directed. Definitely blows the doors off that garbage lo- jack system.

First of all, I dont know where you're coming up with this. I've had more **** stolen from me than I could have ever imagined, so I'm not sure if you're coming at me with some sort of accusation or what.

What I meant by the comment, was that if your are in possession of stolen property, you are in as much trouble as the thief. I was in no way condoning owning stolen property.

Next time you give someone attitude and try and act hard, make sure its not behind a monitor and keyboard.

thanks, I didn't mean to come off like a ****, but I didn't want to let the comments stand either.

Apologies for the off topic rant.

To get the thread back on topic, this does seem like a neat idea

Sorry about the comment py1188, in your post it sounded as if you were defending someone who had stolen property by giving the excuse that a lot of thieves think is acceptable (possesion is 9/10's of the law) these idiots seem to think that this excuses them from any responsibility when it comes to having stolen property on there vehicle (or in there home etc.).

I didn't get the intended message of your post and I appologize...I to have been a victim of both auto theft as well as too many car prowls to even keep track of.....these people just get me kind of worked up
