Best CF hood for the money?? VIS??
I have done some searching and many of the topics were old so I thought I would ask your opinions quick. I could never afford SPoon or Fibre Images hoods, as the shipping alone (to get it over the border to me in Canada) would be a few hundred dollars with duty and the other costs intact. Therefore I need a brand I can buy from shops near my home. Anyways, what hoods have you guys seen and liked, and are there some new brands that seem worth the money??

i've heard of spoon hoods gone flying. i don't think any cf hood is really safe without pins, cuz the latch is only attached to cf, which can come off, as oppossed ot the metal latch being welded to the hood. anyways, that is just my opinion.

Get JDMshit CF hood!!
Get JDMshit CF hood!!
I have had a couple of different ones now (current one being FI) and have personally seen various other brands. I am of the thought that it's a little hit and miss when it comes to things like this.
For example I have seen really really nice VIS hoods and I have seen VIS hoods that were not all that great. I have seen Kick *** FI hoods and then there is mine that is not quite up to snuff.
Anyway i think lots of places have the capability to make really good hoods but getting one of the good ones just takes a little luck sometimes.

VIS=they all fit great but they all crack shortly after you buy them, cheap price.
Fiber Images=older models dont fit great, nerw models fit good..strongest hood ever built, dont crack unless you really really try to crack them, kinda expensive.
Seibon= ive never seen a hood but thier carbon lips and spoilers are superb quality.
JDM ****=id never buy from this place just because i know of better companies
i have an older fiberimages hood on my eg and it fits good but not perfect..so i just raised the back of the hood and it looks great..ive had my hood for almost 2 years and it still hasent faded or cracked..ive even had 3 girls sitting on my hood at a party and i wasent bothered at all by it because i trust the hood to hold up..ive stood on it many times
if i were you id go with fiberimages (yea they are kinda expensive and alot of people on h-t are cheap and want to spend 350 bucks on a shitty VIS hood)but its all up to you

I've had my FI hood for almost 2 years now. I bought it used off someone too. I don't know how old it is but it's definately been through alot. The previous owner had the hood clear coated.
That was the best thing IMO someone can do for the hood if you want it to last and stay protected. I have been in two minor front end accidents and the hood is still intact. The first one a truck backed up into the front of my car right into the front of the hood. An eye witness said my hood literally flexed up where the truck rear bumper hit it and then popped back out. I couldn't 'believe it. There was of course scratches and a few minor minor cracks where the bumper directly hit it. But you seriously can't tell unless you get up really close. I know FI hoods are expensive but you really do get what you pay for in terms of strength and quality. I'll admit mine doesn't fit too well with there being a gap on the driver side part of the hood, but if you do what Grip Driver said and raise the back up you can't really tell. It is also pretty light and since it doesn't have a skeleton underneath, it provides alot of extra hood clearance.
My vote goes to FI.

jdmshit hood is probably the best deal out there right now. I don't know if they still have the 379 shipped price, but if they do you cant beat it. BKNW, VIS, and JDMshit (abs dynamics) all weigh 18-23 lbs. I weighed my jdmshit in at 18 lbs. I've heard of numerous people weighing in VIS hoods at over 20 lbs. For me, that is unacceptable. The whole point of carbon fiber is weight reduction, I don't care about weave because I got mine painted.
However, when I first opened up the box with my jdmshit hood, I almost didnt want to paint it. The weave was absolutely flawless all the way through the entire hood. Very tight and small, unlike the burlap weave of some other hoods. The resin they use is excellent too. The Guy who does my body work said it was the nicest CF hood he has painted, because most get pinholes in them from bad resin and mine was like painting metal. Also, he said it just bolted right on and lined up just like OEM. I haven't put hood pins on yet because I don't want to give away the fact that the hood is not metal. With that said, I have driven at 85mph for 2 hours at a time with this hood, and it hasnt even wobbled. I'm going to install a security hood lock inside the hood just in case, but I think I will be fine without it.
Another thing to consider is that the new style VIS hoods require you to cut away some of the underskeleton if you have a b or h-series motor in order to clear the valve cover fully. If you spend $400+ on a hood, that should not be something you have to do
