Default stock catalytic converter = $695

I'm looking for a stock catalytic converter for a 98R - i called the dealer and the quoted me $695 - is that right? Any suggestions? Is this a specific part number or will a GSR one fit as well?

Any ideas?

Thanks everyone!

Dear god please do not spend that.

I'm sure you can find a used one real cheap.

Or just go aftermarket.

Haha wtf? I can't imagine that the stock cat would cost that much, perhaps that quote was for the cat & exhaust.

Sounds about right, unfortunately

I sold my stock cat to a local autocrosser who was desperate for one, after he got a ridiculous quote from the dealer.

Check the classifieds, they sell *much* cheaper there! And technically cats are illegal to sell in junkyards, you can check but most won't sell them. I believe it's an EPA thing.

Check http://www.hybridgarage.com. You can buy a Carsound cat with the flanges, O2 sensor plug, and ready to bolt on for $119.00.

That's almost as good of a deal as those shiny Mugen valve covers at only $899.95. I saw that Willard said they were close to seven hundred the other day and thought it was some type of a typo.

I think the LS and Type R have the same size cat. The type R has 3 studs where it meets up to the B pipe and the LS has 3 holes for bolts. This is however comparing a 94 LS cat to an 01 R cat that I have in my basement.

Stock ones are available used for $50 on the classifieds. Just bought one a few weeks ago. (I have a Comptech highflow for $200 if you are interested too.)

Yeah, junkyards/salvage dealers are not permitted to sell used catalytic converters. Big fines.

I was quoted an even $1000 when I once looked it up with Acura. Needless to say I did not get one. Check the classifieds or a junkyard.

They can sell it to you, if the Cat is attached to the B pipe.

carsound may be the way to go, but they will not last as long as an OE cat. just letting you know so you do not purchase it blindly. i run a carsound and it's held up so far. some people run it for a couple years with no problem whereas others will have to replace it after just a year or less.

Not from last I heard, had to be disconnected.

PS not all salvage yards will follow laws.
