RSX w/ HID question
I have an S2000 and my friend has a 9000k hid kit. His lights are like blue and mines are white and I put like twice the amount of light on the ground that he does. I was told that the more kelvins you go up the less light is produced thats why stock car usually only have around 4000-5000k hid kits. Ive looked around a lil and cant find a kit that has bulbs taht are 4000-5000k to make the lights brighter. Am I right about this? Are there any kits liek that?
Yes you are correct, All automobile HIDs are 4300K, Above that the light looses lumens and does not "throw" as much light...Plus they glare badly and the light can't be controlled well. For the most light 4300K is the best. I have them in my RSX-S.
Got them from http://www.xenondepot.com ask for Steve if you call them

after 6000K the actual light that hits the ground is not as intense and your better off with stock halogens. 4300Ks are the way to go.

Just be causious where you get them from, As of August the 15th of 2003, they are illegal to sell in the United States.
Thats why the Feta web-site had a "recall" on their units...Go figure

Xenondepot is still shipping kits to the US because they are in Canada.
If a vendor in the US is caught selling within the US they'll be fined $5000.
NHTSA has only banned certain HID kits.

How does less light coming out from a headlight makes more glare? If 2000 lumen of lights (produced by a 6000k kit) is making a lot of glare, 3000k lumens of lights (produced by a 4300K kit) should make even more glare. Why would you say if a HID kit above 4300K makes glare, a 4300K would be the best? Your logic escapes me.
The reason why there is glare is because of the headlight housing. Your ordinary Halogen housing is not designed to direct such tremendous lights produced by HID, hence the lights will fly in any uncontrolled direction. Stock HID housing, on the otherhand, is designed for such puropose of directing tremendous amount light. Moroever, the use of projector lens by Audi, BMW, etc. further make sure lights never get above the cut-off line below driver's eyesight horizon. Therefore, the glare has more to do with the headlight housing design and that's why there are many HID projector retrofit out there.
The Xenon Depot, from what I heard at Philips Automotive Lighting forums, started as a knock off company selling HID with bad customer service. At that time their name was not Xenon Depot until they close down their business and reopen under the name "Xenon Depot" they use now. Then they copied the design of one of the most experienced and reputable HID company in the forum, which was also one of the only four companies that was referred by Philips officially on their web site for aftermarket HID kit. The design was copied, but all the parts are sourced from Taiwan v.s. Germany for the original design. Xenon Depot was questioned at the Philips Forum, but after 1 or 2 posts it never post any reply.
In case you're interested, you can ask around in the forum:

The reputable HID company that I refer to is autolamps-online.com . Look for his name in the forum.
I only hear this information as a third party, so I can't say it's 100% truth. But my own conclusion is that Xenon Depot is definitely not the good guys. If you think otherwise and want to speak for them, you should make some post in the forum.

From what I understand the perfect reflective controlabel light is 4,300K,
Old halogen reflectors were designed and made for those light bulbs....I know b/c the 4,300K kit in my RSX does produce a lot of light...Its no way comparable to a reflector housing designed and made for an HID...especially a factory unit like the TSX, and TL have now....They have an amazing cut off line. Any light bulb over 4,300K will glare and thus the reflector assembly can not "control" the light as it could if the light was a 4,300K or lower.
If somebody designs a new reflector/projector beam that can be retro-fitted into a Halogen housing then you could technically have a 4,300K or higher bulb but will loose light output and the cutoff line would not be as sharp.
If I am making no sense I am sorry, we are dead as crap at work due to the "calling for snow" Can't wait to go home

now autolamps-online.com has http://www.hid-online.com for HID applications. VERY reputable company. I have their philips ultinon's h4 hylow kit & I am very happy with their service & product..which i got shipped air mail from england in 2 days. plus tell them your from h-t & they might cut you a deal
from what i have seen on this board many have been happy with xenon depot & don't recall anything negative about them as well. I know many more people on this board have HID kits from xenon depot than autolamps/hid-online
