Hi, I have a Clifford Intelliguard 8000 alarm system. I changed my clutch yesterday, and had my battery disconnected for about 8 hours. When I plugged the battery back in and tried my initial start up, there were no dash lights nor engine crank. At first I thought I didn't connect my starter, but that was not the problem. Then I tried arming my car, the alarm didn't work. Then I checked all alarm fuses, and they were all good. I did not touch any of the alarm brain wires or anything on the interior, I only disconnected the positive and negative terminals on the battery. Anyways, my alarm is DEAD. I was forced to bypass the 2 kill switches and drive my car home like that. It really sucks. Does anyone have any idea on how to reset these Clifford alarms, or how to fix this problem?? Please help. wow, i dont' have anything useful to add but my brother's clifford intelliguard 8000 fried itself after he jumpstarted the car. i've always jumpstarted my car, and haven't had problems with my alarm before, but then again, i have a dei alarm. oh well, though i would share, bump.

 

You probably need to reprogram the transmitters, just a thought. Go to Directed.com, to MANUALS, to Clifford, to 8000. It will show you how to recode the transmitters. Also, check the valet switch.

 

dang this sucks.. i tried playing with the valet switch, nothing happened. i checked all my wiring, everything is still wired up correctly. it is as if my brain is fried, and there is no power to it, meanwhile interupting my ignition switch. i read the manuals, and it says that the alarm should resume where it left off at, when it was disconnected, but not in my case.

it is a good thing the place that installed my alarm said it comes with a lifetime warranty, so i am going to take it back to them. however, i am in riverside for school, and my alarm shop is in san francisco. i don't plan on going up there til another month. what also sucks is that i have 4 door rear handles on my car, so there are no key holes, and also sequential door locks, so when one is locked, both are locked. this really sucks, so i can't really leave my car anywhere. it is a good thing i have a garage.

check your fuses (should be at the battery)
some of the older cliffords (the 100 series ie. 800 not 8000) had a problem where if the battery was disconnected or jump started if would lock up ( originally designed so that thiefs couldn't connect and disconnect the battery to disarm the alarm, --try it on a viper it will unlock your doors) the solution was to completely unplug the main "brain" of the unit and let it sit for 5 mins then plug it back in and you will be able to start it however might need to reprogram features... however I was under the impression that the thousand series no longer had that problem, but it is recommended to remove fuses to the alarm when charging/jumpstarting a car with an older clifford alarm

ouch...still no luck. i tried disconnecting all the plugs from the brain and everything, but the alarm still doesn't work. this really sucks..

What was your exact process of removing and installing the battery. Here's what I do to prevent damage from voltage spikes:

Removing battery:
1. Remove fuse from alarm and audio system
2. Remove ground
3. Remove positive

Installing battery:
1. Re-connect positive
2. Re-connect ground
3. Re-connect fuses

Chances are that your alarm brain is fried and will need to have it replaced. Hopefully, you didn't void your warranty by troubleshooting on your own. Some shops will not honor a warranty if the customer has been tampering with the wiring.

 

oh man, i sure hope it isn't fried. i just hope it needs a reprogram.

 

Do you have access to the Cliffnet Wizard? If so, you'll be able to tell if the alarm is at least working. You can even program new remotes with this tool as well.

the way i disconnected and connected the battery was:

disconnect ground then disconnect positive.
connect ground then connect positive.

i didn't think it mattered which order, as i was just anxious to get it connected and started. i didn't even bother taking out any fuses. i guess i know now. i'm still just hoping that the alarm is on a "safe" mode where it thinks a thief just disconnected the battery, and just needs a little reprograming to get it up and running again.

 

well i hope my worst fear of a fried brain isn't coming true. i located the brain, unplugged the wires, and checked the harnesses. both harnesses are getting power, yet the brain doesn't do anything. damnn....i sure hope i don't have a fried brain....

 

Did you check the ground at the battery? Not the vehicle ground, the alarm ground. Small 16 or 18 gauge wire. That one wire can keep the complete alarm from working, and since the starter kill, and ignition kill relays are built-in, they won't let those circuits work either...

From what you have stated, I can almost guarantee that's the problem.

 

i'll check for that wire. however, we never touched anything in the interior the whole time we were working on the clutch. but i will check it out anyways.

 

It has nothing to do with the interior or the clutch. The alarm grounds at the battery outside in the engine bay. That ground wire is probably not hooked up

 

disconect the battery ground and then reconnect it about 10 sec later, you'll be all good to go. get this problem about once a month at my shop.

 

wow, thanks for the input guys. i feel really stupid right now, but also really relieved. i checked all my wiring, and used a test light and found that the ground wire on the harness was not hooked up. i traced where the ground wire went, and it so happened that the ground terminal was hiding next to all the other wire loom, so it blended in. i then connected it to the ground terminal, and now my alarm is back!! thanks guys for all the input. i now know what to do and what to check if my alarm ever goes out on me again.
