Resurrection of '97 #309
*EDIT* A few newer pics my friend sent me are added below
Seeing as though I'm sitting here in Japan at work on a Sat. night, I'm pretty bored. I've been reading Honda-tech the last few hours dreaming up my next project, I figured I could give a little update about a resurrected R.
Ok some of you may remember Flex97ITR and his '97 R #309. Well after a hard life, I convinced my friend to purchase the chassis with no drivetrain or interior a couple months ago. The deal was that I would build him a nice everyday car so he could leave his new G35 coupe alone (not to mention he was missing out on the Honda fun
). Anyway, shortly after he purchased the car in Oct. I had a a few misfortunes, and decided to take a job offer in Japan, which left me very little time to put together the promised car.
The car had no drivetrain when we got it, and I just happened to have a whole H22 swap with less then 1K miles on it. To do me a favor and also get the project done quicker, he agreed to buy the swap and let me put it in the Type-r....I know, I know, its not really a type-r anymore, blah blah. Anyhow I got the car about 90% done and it runs really well. The motor is still stock at the moment, running only a chipped p28, ehaust, and super ghetto intake (hes still decidign whether to go turbo or not). The car runs pretty strong, staying even with a d16 tubro hatch I built and my GF's S/C LS. Ok enough about that, here are a few crappy pics he sent me recently of the car to show me that its still alive.

I figured you guys would be happy that a type-r is back on the road even if its not a complete one
I did get a few toys while I've been in Japan
and my new plan is to hopefully buy #309 off my friend and install the B18c5 i recently got and the complete ITR interior from my GF's car. [sarcasm]That way I can be ULTRA cool like all the type-r guys in this forum and hopefully look down on all the ricers and ignorant peoples
[sarcasm]
When I get back to the states I will do a better post about the whole rebuilding we did along with a lot better pics cause my friend takes pics about as well as he works on cars
NEWER crappy pics. Don't pay attention to the ghetto intake, wrong ground, golf tee in the vacuum hose, or powersteering line. They're trying to work on a few things so this stuff is always being messed with. I'll fix it when I get back to the states
.

I don't know why the fender appears a different color but in person I never noticed this....hopefully its just the camera.

What is so terribly wrong with 4 lug? Good pads, fluid, etc, and it will perform well.

H22 or C5, it's gotta be a blast to drive.

Yup, imagine that, bored in Japan. It was cool being here for the first month or so, now its just annoying. I need to learn to speak Japanese to really enjoy it.

Nice!
I was wondering what happened to that chassis, I was eyeing to buy it myself at the time.
Did you paint the white wheels tho?
-K, who likes white wheels

Do you like F'd up white wheels
? I redid them because they were badly chipping and a little curbed, and originally my friend didn't like the white-wheel look. Now of course he wants me to redo them white again....

as long as it was put back together correctly and to specs then it will be fine. you only get ripped off if you try to trade the car in at a dealership.

As far as engine pics I have tons but all on my CPU at home in the states. I will do a proper post showing the buildup and some good finished pics when I get back.

Yea but we were satisfied with the proof of why it had been salvaged, and as long as it wasn't due to body or structural damage, then its fine. Plus the car looked pretty clean and so lonely sitting in the driveway with no heart for so long.
As far as value goes, I think the car has pretty much lost all the value already, I don't see the car losing anymore value so most, if not all of the money would be recouped if the car were sold.

Yea I'm working on getting it from him...I gotta show you some cool things I picked up down here, including a nice R motor, so now I need a nice chassis to put it in. I'm either gonna try and buy the R from him or take my GF's GSR. Also I made a few contacts and I found a way to get everyone parts from here that we can't buy, or are stupid expensive. When I tell you what I paid for a set of brand new Zeal S6's with custom spring rates your gonna flip. Anyway once I get all the details worked out I'm gonna let people at Honda-tech know where to get stuff from here.

Bump for some updated pics and ghetto engine shots.
P.S. I don't know why my friend can't take day time pics....I think his camera works off lunar power or some sh*t.
