Well, having the same problem as many members on this board (grinding gears), I went to Acura Gabriel, explained my story and they are presently replacing my synchros for gears 1, 2 and 3. So my car will be ready on Monday.

Model: RSX Type S 2003
KM: 15 800 Kms

I'll let you guys know if all goes well and the end result.

Was the grinding very bad in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd....or barely there...I swear my second gear is notchy...

It was bad enough to get really annoying. I got the car used this fall and noticed the issue a few weeks later. But after reading posts on clubrsx.com and here, I found out it's a know issue and happens to many owners. I had my car stored for the winter and decided to just bring it into Acura while I'm not using it.

Here are the problems I had:

- Sometimes difficult to put into first gear
- Grinding between 1st and 2nd
- Grinding between 2nd and 3rd
- 3rd gear popping out and going back into neutral = more grinding

So Acura is kindly replacing the synchros 1-2-3.

 

i had my tranny totally rebuilt 3 times in my EP3 Civic Si!!! took over 6 months for any dealer to do anything about it...i went as far as making a couple of calls to HOnda usa

I had to wait 3 weeks too! They couldnt make out what they were doing wrong, turns out after the tranny guy fixed it, he kept on putting a bearing in BACKWARDS causing all the gears to walk out of place and missshift and pop out of gear.....he finally fixed it though

 

i had mine done under wareenty last week and omg...its shifts so easily now...no grind plus hella smooth

 

damn, all this tranny talk is gettin me thinkin
2nd gear use to grind on me when i first bought my
type s but now i dont really notice it, i guess?
do ur cars only do this when ur shiftin at high rpms or
just under normal drivin?

 

Is Acura giving you any crap for your mods?

 

It was grinding on normal RPM shifting....

As for the mods, the car is stock now, only has OEM lip kit and fogs, done by Acura. Mods are coming this spring....

I sort of hope mine will grind more and worse as the months go buy, I have a JDM LSD to install, and would love to have the dealer help me install it

 

they didnt care that i have mod...hell they wer the one asking me if i wanted to do the warrenty...so i say sure y not...

 

****** UPDATE ******

I got my car back from Acura and they replaced my synchros for gears 1, 2 and 3 and they also replace all 3 gears. They changed a total of 18 or so parts in my tranny. Well, everything works great now and can't wait till spring to really test it. For now, the car is going to storage for a few months....

So props to Acura Gabriel for the great work the did on my car !
