well...he's telling me he noticed it immediately and stepped down on the clutch right away...he's also telling me he didnt pass the 9g's in rev but he failed the "dollar test". the exhaust is sucking in air so its most likely a bent valve...possibly pistons too? well....the question at stake is....will the dealer replace it? for free that is...cuz my friend juss bought his car around 2 weeks ago....hes hoping the dealership will not tax him....and...have you guyz heard of people walking out of dealerships with brand new RSXs when they miss-shifted? i have heard rumors...thx for posting

yea more info, did he do like a 5th to 3rd way over rev, valve train noise, knocking, whats wrong with miss shifting it happens to everyone once and a while. If you feel that something got messed up, then do a compression test.

up up up and away for some more info...thx for the people that have been posting...mainly...im looking for info regarding RPM being logged into the ecu....something like "over-rev code" where excessive RPMs are burned into the ecu? is that true? and...i need info on how to "sweet talk" the dealership into fixing my friends car for free....it has warranty and only 2 weeks old

Dealerships aren't stupid. As soon as you bring the car in, they will suspect abuse. They will probably tear it down, but if they find bent valves or some evidence of abuse (which they will), you will pay the labor for them taking it apart.

Don't try to screw the dealership, or you'll just get screwed even worse yourself.

Just me experienced opinion though...

if they determine it to be the drivers fault, which they will, than its going to come out of your friends pocket. dealers offer a warranty on parts and workmanship not on whether it can take poor driving and unnecessary abuse.

Only 600 miles on it, and you're already redlining it???

People these days... Besides the fact that you're buddy miss-shifted, he's already abusing it by pushing it too far in the break-in stage. IMO, he deserves to get raped by the dealership.

man i work for acura and ive seen alot of those but ive seen motors being replaced cuz they shot the rod right out the side of the block. seen a valve get swallowed into the piston. no offense you guys who do that **** to a brand new car are real ******** and not very smart. ive seen a rsx type s get 2 motors within 3 months. o yea and the ecu does have a blk box that records the last thing that happened wit the car. and acura is not to bright when they warrenty this stuff. your friend should be lucky

reason y acura is helping him out is because acura doesnt want any lawsuits saying that acura is not covering the warrenty for the fault of the driver

One of my friends did the same thing. The first time acura replaced it under warrandy, the second time they did not and he had a shop around us do a K24 bottom end with a RSX-S head. Then the oil pump went out on that and he's back to the stock motor. I'm not sure what the hell he's doing to his car, but it seems the new K-Series motors Don't take abuse too well.

hey phiz sorry for not giving more info. the ecus in the rsx type s has a kinda like a blk box in it. it monitors and records everything that the engine is doing time date what rpm it was in. from the time and day it was test driven to the time and day it comes in for something liek what this guy did mishshitfing at a high rpm specially wit a car that didnt even break a thousand miles yet.
thats what i meant hope that clears it up a lil

Well it will not have enough memory to record the entire life of the car, what would be more common would be for it to have a circular buffer, where it records for say, one day, and then overwrites itself....

And is it a seperate box, or is it internal to the ecu. I don't suppose removing power from the ecu will erase it, because it is conceivable that power could be lost during an accident.

So I wonder if you could just drive it after an accident until the memory "rolled over", or if it is resettable with a scan tool, or something. Hrm, interesting.

I read an article recently about this kind of information starting to be used in legal cases, to determine fault.

no its not external its internal built into the ecu. and im sure it will save itself if the ecu was discconected. it is sum crash ****. i think they call it the drive record or the freeze data. wave of the future
