Default Thouse with GM syncromesh....

Have any of you guys that are running GM syncromesh noticed some slack in the drive line? Trey and I are baffled on this one. He knows 3 other people that have this problem, and the only thing common between all of us is that we are all running syncromesh. Also I never had this problem untill I started running syncromesh.

The problem? If I'm crusing down the high way in 3rd and let off the gas and get back on it, the car kind of jerks a little. And no, it has nothing to do with the motor, the motor is running 100% perfect. Also if I have the car, shut off in the garage and in first, I can push and pull the car a good 2 to 3 inches.

I thought it might have been in the axles, but last night I busted out some work on my car and tried trouble shooting this issue. The axles seem solid and up to par. However, if I grab the inner cv joint, I can rotate it a good 10 to 15 degress back and forth. (i.e. it rotates in the tranny. As I rotate the cv joint, I can here something moving in the tranny, then it stops rotating. Then back in the other direction, I can hear something moving in the tranny, then it stops rotating.)

Thanks for the help guys...

If your car is on flat ground, turned off, no e-brake and in first gear, can you push and pull the car? If so, about how far?

when I had my car, ALL Honda MTF.

I would be able to push it 2-3inches , i was rock back and forth(to sleep).

Maybe you just didn't notice it before, and more aware now b/c you put in the syncromesh.

I've noticed this before syncromesh (with Honda MTF) and with syncromesh.. i wouldn't think it has anything to do with the tranny fluid.. although i did notice that my bored out TB tends to stick so I had to adjust the throttle stop screw..

You can roll every car back and fouth a little bit. If you couldn't the gears won't last long. That movement is the clearances in the gears begin taken up. I have no idea what is up with your CV joints.

When you say that your motor rocks back and forth when you let off the gas in third are you snapping your foot off or quickly letting it off? My car only has a cat-back exhaust and it does the same thing. It gets really annoying sometimes too. If I am rolling along in first with just a small amount of throttle and stand on it, the motor shakes quite bad and then the tires spin. My throttle cable also has no slack in it at all (if you just look at the throttle pedal the car revs).

I will try to check my cv joints tonight for you too see if I have any slack in the inner joints,

I am having the same problem I didnt think it could be any way related to the syncromesh but this makes me think. I have a weird feeling in my pedal like when I start out in first or if i let of a little in second then get back on it fast it feels like something skips or jerks, really hard to describe. I think I am swithcing back to Honda MTF to see if it fixes it. BTW this started on the first drive after the synchromesh was put in.

After fixing a broken motor mount, the problem is still present.

That is my plan this weekend. Switch back to Honda MTF and drive it for a week and see where the problem is at.

how could tranny fluid cause this?? sounds to me like its mechanical and probably just the tranny parts broken in so theres a lot more "slack".

I really don't think so. How could one tranny fluid cause more mechanical slop in the transmission than another? Even if some of the fluid was left on the faces of the gear teeth with the car parked, the force of the teeth coming together when you rock the car would cause that to squirt out like ketchup when you jump on a packet of it.

What about the transmission mount?

Im thinking about wear on the gears. Maybe the syncromesh causes pre-mature wear. But who the hell knows. It doesn't hurt to atleast try changing the tranny fluid back.

Sounds good to try the other fluid. If the damage is done though....

Good luck and if you need any measurements or anything to compare let me know.
